The Messengers from Minneapolis will perform a sacred service in song at Trinity Lutheran church Chateau on Sunday August 31 at 9 00 a m and at Dutton at 11 00 a m The quartet includes Joseph Walla Joseph Erickson Vernon Erickson and Clement Gisselquist Alumni of Luther Bible School Fergus Falls Minn They have toured nationwide and abroad and are praised by Alexander Erickson director of the Vocal Arts School No admission charged public is invited to attend the service.
County agent notes harvest is complete and advises planting winter wheat between September 10 and 20 to avoid root rot and wire worm damage. Early seeders head earlier, better resilience against heat, with moisture favorable this fall. A program for registered seed aims to improve quality and supply for 1942 and 1943.
Excavation started this week for the foundation of a new Catholic church to be erected on Main Avenue beside the Social Center. Duke Blakely is in temporary charge of construction during this period.
An error appeared in last week's issue about school district levies set by the county commissioners. District 28 shows a levy of 19.93, District 30 16.94, and District 64 99.
Mr. Ziegler, mayor of Monroe Nebraska, nursing a gunshot wound like arm, and his wife, along with Mr. and Mrs. Cowgill and Pendroy hosts, witnessed a bear open their car door with a paw. The bear grabbed corn from a lunch basket while the group fled to the opposite side. Ziegler later sought medical aid and called the encounter worthwhile.
On August 11 at 10 30 p m a highway crash on Dutton road 16 miles east of Chateau involved P D Huidekoper and J T Tamplin. The Huidekoper party including a 5 month old infant suffered injuries while Tamplin was charged with liquor impairment and forfeited a 125 bond.
Owen Monkman has been chosen to represent the Chateau F F A at the officers training school and camp titled Camp Sunshine near Elliston from August 24 to 27. Joe Lindseth says about 62 chapters from as many high schools will attend to stress character leadership and recreational training for Future Farmer program aims. The program includes trips to Helena the state capitol and Dear Lodge state penitentiary.
Preparations for the annual Flower Show and Tea on Saturday at the Legion Pavilion are nearly complete. Special entries of novelties including odd and unusual flowers in novel arrangements were added by Mrs Franklin and Mrs Peterson. The Chateau Woman's Club Flower Show has been praised for local blooms and a meeting of the club is set for 3 30 at the pavilion during the show afternoon.
Funeral services are held at the Methodist church in Bynum today at 2 p m for Tarnest Gilruth Harris who died at his home in Bynum last Sunday. Rev Vick will preach the sermon Banks Funeral Home in charge Pallbearers named Harris was born July 4 1888 in Marysville Missouri and lived in North Platte Nebraska before moving to Bynum in 1913 in contracting. He married Mary Franklin in 1911 at Kearney Nebraska and leaves two sons Robert E Harris and Jack G Harris both of Bynum plus two sisters Mrs John Stafford North Platte and Mrs Warren Warnock Orofino Nebraska. Mrs Stafford attends the service.
Wellenstein announces 1942 Federal Crop Insurance program cuts complexity with a commodity note plan for premium payments. Insurers must cover all farms in a county under one policy and single applications suffice. Coverage runs to Oct 31, with premiums due by Aug 29. winter wheat insurance must be taken before Aug 30. forms available at the county office.
The Teton county Preparedness and Advisory commission announces voluntary citizen registration for those without a Social Security number, requested by the National Defense council. Registration is planned for the first week in September, with volunteers asked to contact county chairman Geo. A. Ceacoll or Mr. Carroll to arrange local help.
County promotes well child conferences for under school age children. Elizabeth Havnen, public health nurse, lists two sessions at Dr. H W Bateman in Fairfield on Aug 27 from 2 to 4 pm and Dr. Lyall Crary on Aug 28 from 2 to 4 pm. Parents urged to bring children for smallpox and diphtheria vaccines.
Alfred Theodore Blomberg known as Beans died this morning after a three week illness from uremic poisoning at Deaconess hospital. He would have been a senior in high school this fall and played for Teton county high school basketball alongside other sports. He was born near Craig Montana and moved to Choteau in 1927 with his parents Mr and Mrs Carl Blomberg. Survivors include three sisters Clara Walley Esther Blomberg of Choteau and Agnes Burch of Fairfield. The body lies at Banks Funeral home with funeral plans not yet set.
Pairings for the handicap based golf tournament at the local country club were announced after Tuesday night draw. First matches are nine holes with later rounds longer. progress card available at Chateau Drug Store and club house. winners receive prizes and the club champion title.
The outdoor mass meeting and picnic of the Methodist church at Chateau City Park, originally set for August 24, is moved to Sunday Sept 7. Harvest and vacation schedules forced the delay to secure speakers and finish arrangements. The 11 am service includes singing, music, and a noted speaker, followed by a potluck picnic.
The Junior Fair on August 29 and 30 is expected to surpass previous years with large open class crops vegetables and home economics displays. 4-H and FFA exhibits flood in as entries close August 28 and judging begins Friday morning with a 9 oclock livestock and poultry start Saturday. A 4-H parade along with prize floats, a state champion dairy foods demonstration, a dress revue, and a park program with bicycle and races fill the schedule. Proceeds from a stand benefit National Club Congress travel.
Two members of Chateau Troop No. 51 Lawrence Burlingame and Dan ONeil leave for a week or more in the Lewis and Clark national forest Te ton district. District Ranger William Gaffney Gilbert Lee organize the trip with Ranger L. J. Howard guiding. They travel by saddle and pack horses visiting Ear Mountain West Fork Bennie Hill Birch creek and Lackleaf ranger stations. ONeil supplies his own saddle horse.
