In a reflective column Ben Beringer and neighbors battled a fast moving wheatfield fire on a western boundary between Beringer and Capulette. Firefighting with tractors plows shovels and any tools available halted the blaze after it consumed several acres. Paul Alzheimer risked the effort by clinging to a moving car to keep its throttle open as the fire spread.

Choteau FFA Finishes Fourth in Stock Judging Contest
The Choteau FFA placed fourth in the North Montana state fair livestock judging contest held at Great Falls. The team featured top individual scorer Harry Thorn, with teammates Frank Campbell and Fred Swain. Other members reported for FFA band were unavailable due to harvest, and Owen Monkman was elected to attend Camp Sunshine August 24 to 27 west of Helena.

Upland Bird Season Set for Hungarian Partridges and Pheasants
The state fish and game commission announces October 26 to November 16 as opening dates for Hungarian partridges and Chinese pheasants. Sharp-tailed grouse season is banned in Teton county, with a one day season in other counties. Guns must be plugged for three shots. hunting hours 7 am to dark on Sundays and Armistice Day, noon to dark on weekdays. Bag limits are three cock pheasants and three partridges per day, with six in possession.

Farmington Man Wins Grand Championship With Guernsey Cow
Clarence A. Carlson of Farmington Montana won first prize in the two year old class and later grand champion of the Guernsey breed at the North Montana State Fair. The county agent noted the herd prospects and a local dairy push with neighboring farmers developing fine herds. An agricultural extension effort aided 10 farmers with 16 Tillamook calves, promising high butterfat production and offering Holstein Guernsey and Jersey calves for orders through May.

Longtime Teton County agronomist Robert Clarkson dies at 57
Robert Clarkson 49 former Teton county agriculturist died in Lincoln Nebraska after a long illness with pernicious anemia and a rare bone disease. He served as county agent from 1918 to 1934 and held regional posts in government farming programs. He was a Mason and community leader, remembered for founding boys band work and extensive farm extension service. Funeral services were held in Chinook with Masonic burial.
