Mini-Fed Swim Meet Closes 1976 Season With Records
The Mini-Fed season finale drew about 100 swimmers from nine of West Central’s 21 teams. Kim Carlson tied for high point honors with two firsts and a second, setting a 50 meter backstroke record of 44.2 seconds. Tim Brumberger won the fly in a record 37.0 seconds as Jeff Olson’s disqualification shaped the outcome. Greg Armstrong set a Mini-Fed 100 I.M. record at 1:38.7. Chateau relay units added three more Mini-Fed records.

Chateau Public Schools Set for Sept 7 Start Amid Staff Appointments
Chateau Public Schools will open for the 1976 77 term at 9 a.m. Tuesday Sept 7 with all teachers employed. Staff orientation begins Sept 1 for certified personnel and two pre school activity days fill the calendar. A high school DPI sponsored workshop in Havre will extend staff time. Junked Cars To Be Removed Free of Charge
The Board of Teton County Commissioners contracted with Raymond and Sarah Hanlon of Ennis Montana to remove junk or abandoned cars to the county site. They will be paid $20 per car from the Teton Junk Car License Fund. Residents urged to list vehicles with County Extension Offices in Fairfield or Chateau. Release forms are available at the extension offices or from the contractors. The service costs residents nothing, funded by vehicle license fees.

City Council Creates New Sewer District
The Chateau City Council in a special session passed a resolution creating a special improvement district for a sewer line in the Country Club Addition. Ray Kelly Bob Zion and Glee Wilson attended. Water service to the area will be studied further. Next meeting set for 8 p.m. Monday Aug 23.

A 17 year old Jonesboro Tennessee youth Ralph E Madden Jr was killed in a fall while climbing near Hidden Lake Washboard Reef Wyoming with Rod Bullis of Chateau and Bullis’ 17 year old brother. The body was recovered after a daylong search and lengthy ascent involving deputies forest service and sheriff posse members.

A blaze Monday evening destroyed about 15 acres of grain and extensive stubble on the Leif Larsen farm east of Chateau. Firefighters from multiple directions contained the fire in 45 minutes aided by calm winds.

Rosa Ruiz Santillan, 18, from Lima, Peru, arrives in Choteau to live with the Bert Guthrie family and attend Choteau High School as an American Field Service exchange student.
