Couple Wed at Ranch Rites in Montana Ceremony

An Eastern couple married last Saturday at Circle 8 guest ranch in Teton canyon Montana. Clarissa Ramsdell Clement of Buffalo New York and Sherman Ewing Jr of Armenia New York exchanged vows at noon in the lodge 26 miles west of Chateau in the Lewis range. Attendants included Constance Clement Nan Ewing and David F Bull. Capt John W Sloan officiated with a pine wreath altar setting. the bride’s mother was ill and did not attend.

Annual Sun River Tour Under Way With Conservation Groups

An annual inspection tour began Monday from Ear Mountain ranger station as representatives from the Montana Livestock Association Sun River Conservation Sportsmen associations the game department livestock association and forest service ride the Sun River elk range. They will survey herd conditions and recommend elk and deer harvests while meeting to improve cross agency relations. Participants include Tom Messelt Faye Caney Bruce Neil Doug Morrison and Todd Nett with others unable to attend but sending support.

Frank Newman Rites Held Monday Here

Funeral services were held Monday at the Lutheran church in Cho teau for Frank A. Newman 59 who died in New Orleans La Burial was in Beck community cemetery Rev Maynard Iverson of Great Falls officiated He had lived in New Orleans with his son Everett and had been ill about two years He was born January 5 1891 in Long Prairie Minnesota and came to Teton county in 1913 He is survived by his mother Ida Schultz a son Everett a brother Fred two half sisters Mrs Pearl Prill and Mrs Ida Kessler and a half brother Ed Schultz all of Long Prairie

Newspaper Men Plan To Dine in Canyon and Visit Choteau Sunday

The Montana Chamber of Commerce writer's tour brings national editors to dine at Lazy P guest ranch west of Choteau at 11 Sunday. Broady Smith Story to Appear In Magazine

A magazine article recounting E. Broadhurst Smith’s encounter with a grizzly near Heart Butte last year will be in the Sept Oct issue of Western Sportsman. Written by Dora Fitzpatrick of Dupuyer, the piece titled I went Two Rounds With a Grizzly Bear is Smith’s account via Mrs. Fitzpatrick.

Big Sandy Girl To Edit Acantha

Betty Lou Lawrence daughter of the Big Sandy Mountaineer publisher will be vacation editor of the Chateau Acantha for two weeks. Jere Coffey Pat Campbell and Mrs Campbell will drive to Los Angeles for a vacation during that period. Readers may call Miss Lawrence at the Acantha with items through Sept 1. She recently finished a vacation stint at the Harlowton Times and other Montana weeklies.

Dr Lyle Crary Clinic Building Under Construction

Construction begins on a two story brick veneer clinic for Dr. Lyle Crary of Fairfield on Sulgrove lots in Chateau. The 76 by 32 foot building will house upstairs apartments for Dr. Crary and his family and a downstairs medical clinic and dentist quarters.

Couple Observes 34th Anniversary At Choteau Church

The 34th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hatch, formerly of Burbank California, was observed Aug 5 at the Methodist parsonage in Choteau. They were married August 5 1916 in the same parsonage study by Reverend Hall. Mrs. Hatch is Murel Burch, daughter of J S and Mrs Burch of Deep Creek. They attended with son Howard Hatch Jr and another son Lee Hatch of Burbank. The vows were renewed in the parsonage with the Rev Harold Engdahl and the parsonage family present.

Mr and Mrs Ronald Bard of Morgantown West Virginia spent a night at Chateau last Friday while en route to the parks It was Bards first return visit to the area since his birth 36 years ago He said his father taught school here and he attended with Sidney Carson

4-H Day Set Next Tuesday At Pavilion

4 H club members prepare for exhibit day and elimination contest at the Chateau Park pavilion August 22. Danish judging will place exhibits into blue red or white groups with morning contests and afternoon demonstrations and dress revue. The top scorer from each contest will attend Club congress in Bozeman August 28 to 31. Members 14 or older should bring up to date records. public invited to view exhibits and contests.

Brady youngsters 15 and under host Choteau teens in a 6 o clock game here tonight. The Aug 8 Brady-Choteau game was rained out after four innings with Choteau leading 3 to 1, Hinman homered for Choteau while Kauk pitched for Brady.

Hofland Charged With Manslaughter in Death

County Attorney Herbert Conrad files information charging Martin Hofland of Brady with involuntary manslaughter after a coroner jury found Hofland negligent while intoxicated in a collision near Brady on August 5. Kenneth Hayes and family aboard the Hayes car were involved. Mrs Hayes sustained serious injuries.

Dutton Club Clinches Trophy At Hill Shoot Victory

The Dutton Trap club defeated Choteau by 136 points on the hill course to gain permanent possession of the Dutton-Choteau trophy. Tom Moore shot 99 of 100 to top the field and claim two legs toward the trophy. The Sept 17 Teton Trophy event will be held at the Choteau Trap club grounds, with Cut Bank the current holder and aiming for a second win.

The grand chapter session of the Order of the Eastern Star of Montana opens in Missoula for a three day meeting. County Shows Illinois More Juvenile Cases than Last Year

In the 1949 50 period Teton county reports 57 juvenile cases and 28 special services by Clara S Withee chief probation officer for the ninth district, up from 46 and 25 last year. Across four counties 323 juvenile cases 32 hearings and 16 commitments this year vs 269, 19 hearings and four commitments in 1948 49. The report stresses probation and community support to avoid institutional commitments.

The Chateau Woman's club hosts a flower show at the nearly ready Teton Memorial Hospital building. Flowers will be displayed and refreshments served on Saturday Aug 26 as part of the hospital warming event inviting floral entries.

Obituary of Mrs. Clatonia Fitzgerald of Collins

Mrs. Clatonia Fitzgerald, 79, Collins resident for 40 years, died Monday night at a Great Falls hospital. The body was taken to Croxford's mortuary for services. Born Sept. 12, 1870 in Germany she and her family farmed in Collins since 1910. Survivors: son Lawrence E. Fitzgerald Collins daughter Mrs. Lucille Trebesch Genoa and four grandchildren.
