First Wheat Deliveries Begin as Farmers Swath in Teton County

First wheat deliveries of the year reach Chateau elevators while combines cut on a few farms in Teton county. Many farmers plan to swath to dodge hail storms. Early yields so far reflect hailed crops, not representative. Harvesting lags behind lower elevations due to mountain maturity. Port Benton harvests concluded in late July with some Great Falls fields yielding around 40 bushels.

Mrs Dora E Murray 73 of Great Falls wife of the late Jasper Murray of Chateau died Sunday after an extended illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Croxford's Great Cemetery. Elizabeth Smith Services Set For Tomorrow

Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth B. Smith 79, longtime Choteau resident, will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Choteau with burial at Highland Cemetery, Great Falls. She died Monday from heart ailment after a year of illness. Surviving daughters Mrs Cari Malone and Mrs Jeck Baker, son Pred E. Smith, five grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.

The State Board of Health submitted a report to the city council denying a petition to exclude the Cowgill addition from annexation to Chateau. It warns septic tanks threaten sanitation, urging Cowgill join the city so sewer connections can be installed promptly.

Second Storm Deepens Hail Damage Across Bole Pendroy Area

A renewed hailstorm Friday worsened losses north of Bole and near Pendroy after a prior severe storm. Farmers Walter Johnson Jeff Phillips Duffey Brothers Art Tesch and Jay Gitchel report near total crop losses or major damage, with some fields spared and a Mustard field demolished north of Pendroy. The report compares yesterday's wheat values with the same date a year ago and two years ago, noting market declines over the period and highlighting two years of price changes.

Teton Taxable Value Shows Yearly Increase

The 1956 total assessed valuation for Teton county is 39 374 294 up 2 199 482 from 1955. Taxable value rose to 10 403 515 from 10 325 835 with gains in grains and household goods countered by stock value declines. Net proceeds and drilling equipment values rose with Pendray area activity seen as boosting next year. District 51 at Agawam receives the major share of net proceeds. Choteau Dutton and Fairfield showed taxable increases of 28 411 37 821 and 7 042 respectively.

Market Cards At ASC Office In Chateau

Eligible wheat producers may obtain 1956 wheat marketing cards by visiting or writing the Teton County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Office in Chateau. Chairman C. B. Turnbull says eligibility covers farms under compliant or excess penalties and that settlement can be made by cash payment, storage, or delivery to the Secretary of Agriculture.

First Football Practice Set For Next Week

Chateau high school gridders report Friday Aug 24 at 8 p m in the gym for physicals before football practice starts. The first game is Sept 7 at Fort Benton in a nonconference clash as 13 lettermen departed last season. About 80 players urged to attend day one. Aid Sought to Finish Park Pavilion by Local Club

LeeRoy Anderson of the Chateau Square Dance club requests aid to complete the park pavilion interior. The city-built annex has a kitchen rest rooms and cloak room but remains rough and lacks about $200. He asks organizations to fund raise or donate to finish walls and rest rooms for local groups and the Elks who use the park.

Dutton Firms Bay Calves at Beef Sale

At the 26th Annual Baby Beef sale at the North Montana State Fair in Great Falls, 163 calves were sold last Friday. Tr J Cheetham and Son of Dutton bought a calf owned by Jerry Trebesch at 41/2 cents a pound and Dutton Farmers Elevator Co purchased a calf owned by Dick Trebeach at 31/4 cents per pound.

Batemans Host Lions Club Outing At Glen Willow Ranch

About 300 Lions Cub members and guests from district 37 enjoyed the annual outing at Glen Willow ranch hosted by Dr. and Mrs. Howard W. Bateman. Lions International officials attended with members from six Canadian cities honoring the former district governor who spoke earlier in the year.

Last Rites Held At Fairfield For Albert Lee

Funeral services for Albert Fay Lee 62 Fairfield farmer were held with military honors at the cemetery. Lee died suddenly at noon while engaged in farming. Survivors include two daughters and four brothers Lyle and others.
