County Superintendent Inez Eckford presents the annual financial report for Teton county school districts. The combined receipts start at 83 441 28 with end-year balances of 104 320 77, showing about 21 000 improvement over last year. Total net spending reached 166 146 01, up from 143 908 75, reflecting expanded programs across districts.
Mrs. J. Wilson Moore of Bynum plans to reopen the Teton County high school dormitory as students return to classes. She cites a new weekly rate of 15 dollars and a weekend surcharge of 1.50, with opening date to be announced. Principal A. B. Guthrie is awaiting word from the East.
Adolph Klatt Jr eleven year old Power locality farm boy was killed Sunday about 1125 am when a light truck driven by his father and a truck with an oil tank trailer driven by Dale Randolph of Great Falls collided on the Power road twenty miles west of Great Falls Deputy Sheriff C E Johnson said both vehicles were eastbound Klatt truck led as he signaled a turn Randolph claims the signal was for a left turn Adolph Jr was riding in the rear with his brother Alfred he was thrown out and a wheel of the trailer passed over him while Alfred remained in the cab unharmed
Three members Bernard Toenys, John Shoquist and Alvin Meyer of the Teton Future Farmers of America captured first place in the state livestock judging contest at the North Montana fair. Twenty-one teams competed, with a $20 prize for the winning team.
A committee from the Fairfield Women's Club led by Mrs. H. R. Prior Mrs. L. B. Kay and Mrs. Jacob Olson solicited funds in Chateau for a new Fairfield library under construction. Local business houses and citizens responded readily. The log 20 by 30 foot building is planned.
Rural pupils and schools in Teton county captured multiple first and second awards at the North Montana fair in Great Falls. Highlights include May Gronberg and Harmony school second in penmanship and toy collections, Jack Campbell first in wooden toy, Herbert Hanson first in rocks, Magdaline Loch multiple firsts in basketry and design, and Betty Young first in cartoon. Exhibits from Plainview, Dale, Harmony, Fairfield and other area schools. A wooden top by John Campbell was shown in Chateau before display at the fair.
C L Emerick with wife and two grandchildren Billy and Marguerite Kafron arrived Saturday for a visit with W A Emerick. A veteran Baltimore and Ohio railroad man retired in 1931 after 40 years service. He and family toured the west from Akron Ohio, via Los Angeles, stopping to view Gibson Dam and plan a Glacier Park trip with his nephew.
Teton county 4-H team led by Miss Mary Ellen Robison and Miss Virginia Allum of Chateau won the Montana state agriculture demonstration title at the North Montana fair in Great Falls. The home economics team Christie Swanson and Jean Passmore of Pendroy placed fourth. Robison and Allum led a landscape planning demonstration for the 4-H Ari club.
Phil I. Cole returned from a two week trip through the Dakotas Minnesota and Wisconsin to contact prospective feeders. He reported the Rud River valley area between Fargo North Dakota and Brackenridge Minnesota shows most lambs contracted at 7 to 9 cents.
The Chateau Woman's club won the chautauqua ticket drive over the Lions. Tuesday evening the Lions with Lionesses hosted a picnic dinner-dance in the city park to honor the win.
County Treasurer Elmer C. Smith and his family returned from a month long visit with his parents and relatives in Ohio. The family drove about 4,500 miles and Mr. Smith had not seen his parents since moving West after the World War.
Eugene Shelmerdine of Bynum appeared before U. S. Commissioner C. H. Ferris on Monday to make final proof on a homestead claim.
Power community mourns Claude Halcro three as he was fatally pulled into a combine while watching his father operate it near Power. Cascade County deputy and coroner investigated. body sent to Croxford mortuary in Great Falls. Survived by parents a brother and a sister.
Mary Evelyn Jacobson 11, of Choteau, died at Choteau hospital from injuries after a fall at the Gallatin Valley elevator in Bynum. She suffered a fractured skull and internal injuries. Funeral set for tomorrow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Edwin Dover leading. pallbearers are six neighborhood girls.
Fairfield defeated the Chateau Twilighters 11 to 6 on the local ball diamond in the second meeting of the season. Choteau pitcher Poore allowed seven runs in the first inning before Fairfield rallied to win behind a full nine innings pitched by Poore with O’Hare catching. A return game with Belt is set for a week from Sunday.
The Teton county high school board accepted the resignation of Miss Evelyn Mattmiller, home economics instructor who taught two years and earned praise as an able teacher and active community worker. She received an offer from Great Falls high school and may accept. Her department organized many public banquets including the annual farmers’ fun feed.
A marriage license was issued this week by the district court clerk to Alvin F. Statts 24 of Great Falls and Frances Lehmann 21 of Highwood in the county clerk docket.
County commissioners reduced the overall levy to 37.50 mills from 40.00 with a 2.50 mill net cut as bridges receive a 1 to 2.50 mill increase. Road and livestock levies hold at 5 and 3.50 mills while general and state components remain steady. Dutton municipal levy rises 40 mills due to city water works and improvements.
The Agricultural Adjustment Administration held three Montana meetings this week to advance an agricultural range program and soil conservation benefit payments for stockmen. Havre hosted a session with County Agent Fred Willson and local ranchers, where Carl Malone urged a grazing capacity based conservation payment to compensate operators for necessary adjustments.
Mr and Mrs R A Lillicrap depart Chateau after residing since March 14. He led the US Biological Survey on flood plans for Benton lake Cascade and Priest lake Teton counties to aid a bird refuge. A preliminary survey for another dam was filed in Washington with the report still awaiting action.
Christ Hagberg was fined 350 by Justice of the Peace J G Jackson for driving a truck with fictitious license plates. A 6.00 fine followed for no clearance lights and no fuel in flares, arrest by Highway Patrolman C E Berkner. Mrs Gladys Weaver, charged with DUI, was sentenced to pay 100 by Justice J G Jackson, which was paid.
J M Wallace, a native of Oklahoma who moved to Montana in 1916 and worked with Mekenzie Wallace Co, dies at 48 after ill health. He was active in Masonry and fraternal groups. Funeral held in Missoula after relatives from Pol lock family traveled there.
The Teton county 4-H club council committee met to set Saturday Sept 19 as the date for the annual 4-H club fair at the city park in Cha teau. The group reviewed the fair program premium list and other matters with attendees including Harry Labaugh chairman Claude Windecker Mrs Martin Schultz Johnny Shoquist Vincent Ward and County Agent Fred Willson.
Chas. Coulter, district planning engineer with the state planning control board, Dist. No. 6, Great Falls, arrived to extract water right filings in the county since 1918 from courthouse records. He will handle additional surveys for the county.
