City Council Acts on Permits Taxes and Truck Bid
City council met Monday night approving multiple building permits for homes and additions including Katherine Warner J N Swain and J A Baart with costs from 400 to 2500 dollars. Will gravel and oil planned for First Street northwest
Mayor C W Burns announced arrangements with E C Powell to lay crushed gravel and oil on the Chateau Augusta road as a test on First Street northwest. The work, costing about 360 dollars from the street fund, should start before next week with the existing foundation and removal of coarse gravel already in place.

County Commissioners Adopt Final Budget and Aid Measures
The county board met at the courthouse for the August session and approved the final budget totaling 218 370 dollars. Old age assistance applications under new state and federal laws were discussed with 110 filed to date and 18 approved by the state board. checks were delayed by mailing errors. Drought relief applications are in, a drought case worker may stay through winter, and bids for operating the county poor farm were called. The annual tax levy meeting is set for Monday.

New Wheat at Local Elevators Heavier Wheat Is Worth More
The Gallatin Valley and Rocky Mountain elevators received the season’s first new wheat from Farmington growers. Depner and Bakker were the first to bring in grain, with weights ranging from 55 to 59 pounds. The Tarrant-Wellenstein wildcat on the Pendroy structure failed to yield commercial oil after a 1000 gallon acid job. The well showed 4929 feet to contact Madison lime with gas present though no Ellis sands were found, suggesting a lime hump. Drilling continued briefly, then casing pulled and operations abandoned.

Eight Acres Burned by Teton Fire
A lightning sparked blaze on the east fork of the North Fork of the Teton burned eight acres in heavy timber. Forest Ranger George Duvendack personally led a 55 man crew aided by CCC workers to containment. The fire, monitored from Gates Park weather readings, highlighted extreme fire danger with humidity at 5 percent and fuel moisture at 7 percent.

About 350 to 400 spectators watched a Friday evening water carnival. Bucking horses and steers will highlight a rodeo at Bynum on Sunday August 9. Managed by O K Davis and George Rice the event offers bronco riding prizes of 20 16 and 5 dollars with a 1 50 dollar entry in riding contests.
