Flowerree cattle consigned from Montana appeared on the Chicago market last Monday, among the season’s first shipments. The Drovers Journal notes a large liberal run from Montana Colorado Wyoming and Dakota with quality fair though not top grade. Successful Test Of Steer Feeding Circulation From Northern Pacific
J B Baird Northern Pacific general freight agent released a circular detailing an experimental steer feeding test. Ninety nine steers from South St Paul and northern markets averaged 1057 pounds entering feed and 1557 pounds after five to six months, a 487 pound gain about three pounds per day per head. They were transitioned from corn to a mix of corn meal bran and oil meal, fed twice daily with abundant hay and water, achieving 62 percent beef yield at slaughter.
