State Lands Lease Big Tracts in Montana Eyes Revenue

Helena Aug 10 Montana for the first time in its history has under lease more than two million acres of land with an initial income of 211,537 dollars. John P. Schund register of the state land office said at year end the leased area should hold, barring renewals, at least this level. Leases spread across institutions including Ochoco University Public Buildings and more with totals shown for each. Annual receipts listed at 511,607 dollars.

Railroad Assessments for 1905 Set by Montana Board

Helena Aug 10 The Montana state board of equalization kept the 1905 railroad assessments the same as 1904 for most lines excluding the Northour Pacific builder branch which dropped to 2500 a mile. New branch lines were set at specified mileages and values including the Great Northern billbourny spur and the Lit ter Root extension. The board adjourned to revise corrected county returns received in only two cases.

At a special county board meeting the contract for building the new court house at Chateau was awarded to Lease & Richards of Great Falls for 827,795.00. Gus A. Minter of Great Falls received the plumbing and heating bid. Four bids for the building and three for heating were submitted, with Coombs & Duncan, McKenzie & Jarl, Beritkis, James Wagner, and Lease & Richards among the bidders.
