Drilling Outfit for Midvale Company Ships to Field

A drilling machinery carload for Midvale One company of Spokane was shipped to the oil fields in northern Teton county. The equipment, consigned to P. C. Mulcaches of the Midvale company, was sent from Woodcroft Wyoming and unloaded at Midvale.

Attorney General Presses Beef Trust Appeal

In Helena on July 31 the Attorney General Galen filed a brief supporting the appeal from Judge Smith in the beef trust case. The brief argues the Montana constitution mandates a law banning combines or trusts and that section 325 of the Montana statutes attempting exemptions violates the constitutional provision.

Sheriffs Mileage Case Appealed to State Supreme Court

Helena Aug 1 Attorney General Galen filed an appeal with the supreme court clerk from Judge J M Clements ruling in the sheriffs mileage fees case The judge held the mileage fee reduction law unconstitutional and the appeal seeks the constitutionality ruling on the new law governing transporting prisoners and local penal system transportages.

Elections to be Held in October in St. Petersburg

July 31 report notes plans for a national assembly election in St. Petersburg. The emperor can dissolve the assembly and set meeting durations. The assembly president may allow press access unless sessions are secret. Bills rejected by both houses go back for revision. Interpellations require 30 signers. If unsatisfied, questions can go to the emperor.

Senator Clark's Recovery and Possible Europe Trip

Senator Clark moved about his apartments as Dr. McKernan predicted a full recovery in ten days to two weeks. Secretary J H Anderson said Clark may travel to Europe by mid August though no plans are set. Anderson notes the mastoiditis operation was secondary and not a brain-base procedure, which would be nearly fatal.

Hanley Arrested on Fraud Charge in Minnesota Case

John G. Hanley publisher of the Alliance Advocate and Western political figure was arrested by U S Marshal Grimshaw on a mail fraud charge. He allegedly claimed the Consolidated Bernard Ranch company owned Montana Cooperative Ranch assets now under receiver, a false representation to attract investors. Hearing set for August 16.

Manchester Mill Company Suit Over Unpaid Claim

Pearl M. Gilbert sues in Cascade county district court against the Manchester Co-Operative Woolen Mill to recover a balance of 196.81 dollars plus interest and costs. The claim stems from a 1904 contract with FE D Kimball for services and a later transfer of the claim to the plaintiff.

Salt Lake City August 1 Eight hundred eighty two people queued at Provo's registration office to enter the Uintah reservation. Mrs Isabel Miller led the line as the first registrant at 9 am and a growing crowd of men followed. Interior Department orders permit all registered individuals to enter via Strawberry Valley to choose homesteads to be filed on August 28.

Choteau Base Ball Teams Dominate Local Sunday Games

Two games played in Choteau on Sunday ended in victories for the home clubs. The Choteau and Burton Beach kids eight met for a 41 to 14 win, umpired by Ed Moerris. Draft Of Proposed Chinese Treaty

Seattle August 1 The Post Intelligencer prints the proposed new treaty on the immigration question from the Chinese government. The draft replaces the prior treaty and provides mutual exclusion of laborers on signing, with non laborers allowed. it includes passage rights for Chinese laborers, entry for Chinese subjects, and arbitration by jointly chosen arbitrators. The treaty would be in effect ten years and may involve special rules for American possessions.
