Pete Gallogly of Great Falls shot 73 to win the Chateau Country Club Invitational last Sunday. Delores McDonald of Conrad won the women's title with 92, while Rose Slanger of Choteau placed second with 98. Men’s flight winners included Howard Orcutt and Mike McQuirk of Conrad and Great Falls respectively, with Bob McPherson and George White of Great Falls also posting solid scores. Betty Ellingson of Conrad won the women’s first flight with 95. Jane Reiner of Conrad claimed the second flight title with 54 for nine holes. Elmer Munson of Conrad defeated Chuck McDonald in a final derby hole to capture the crown.

Fire Danger Remains Very High in Teton District
Dry weather keeps fire danger in the very high range on the Teton Ranger District despite a moist spring. On Sunday July 30, 11 new Region I fires were reported, 10 man caused. Campfires must be stifled and cigarettes fully extinguished. carrying an axe, shovel and bucket per vehicle is advised though campfire permits are not required yet.

Police Report of Violations in Chateau for July
Chateau police list sixty one violations and warnings for July including thirty one warnings for speed curfew violations vehicle defects and failure to obey watering regulations. Night watering hours extended to 10:30 p m due to daylight saving time. Three vandalism incidents and three juveniles were arrested and turned over to the juvenile officer. Twenty four citations issued including six for illegal possession of alcohol and two for curfew violations.

Mrs. Ed Obernolte of Choteau died in a Friday north of Geyser crash. Born May 25 1918 in Roscoe South Dakota she lived in Choteau Fairfield Dutton Billings and Great Falls. Survived by husband two daughters two sisters three brothers and five grandchildren. Funeral held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Choteau with burial in Choteau Cemetery.

Grass Fire at Arnold Miller Farm Damages Barn
County fire units responded to a grass fire at the Arnold Miller place near Chateau on Monday afternoon. The blaze destroyed part of a barn, caused about $600 in damage, and the rest of the barn was saved. Deputies Ron Nelson Vic Sargent and Sheriff Al Becker helped battle the flames and deliver the county fire truck to the scene.

John M Johnson 62 died likely Thursday at his farm home near Choteau Montana. Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev Marlow Eng berg officiating. Chateau Youth Reported Lost On Monday
Dean Brumberger son of Mr and Mrs Ron Brumberger was reported missing Monday afternoon after leaving home at 8 am for a hike with a note saying he would return in an hour. Fire department sheriff posse and Boy Scouts searched north of Chateau along Spring Creek and near the Teton River. Choteau Flying Service conducted aerial passes to aid the locate effort.

The Greens defeated the Blues 12 2 to capture the City Little League crown.
