July 4 Fireworks Display Seeks Community Support
A Chateau plea asks residents to contribute to a July 4 fireworks show. Led by Mrs. Bob Dellwo and a group of mothers, the event will be supervised by the Chateau Volunteer Fire Department and funded by local donations ranging from a few dollars to over $1,000. The display will be on the hill east of town and tied to weekend festivities.

Edward Ellis and his father Richard T. Ellis were killed when their private plane crashed about 25 miles east of Missoula. Ellis, a former Crawford Ranch owner and longtime hardware store executive in Great Falls, left five children and several surviving relatives. Carl Mehmke a rancher between Great Falls and Belt bought a 1923 Stanley Steamer seven passenger touring car in Muskogee Oklahoma. Co O Juelfs said the car is in perfect condition and noted Mehmke’s father Walter owns the largest antique engine collection west of the Mississippi River.

Soper Rites Held Tuesday At Fairfield
Funeral services were Tuesday for Lloyd Charles Soper 70 at Fairfield Congregational Church with Rev C Fred Crowe officiating. A Milwaukee railroad began man for nearly 50 years he died in Teton Memorial Hospital. Born April 10 1895 in Babcock Wisconsin he moved to Lewistown as a child then to Great Falls after World War I and joined Milwaukee. He later bought land near Fairfield and retired. Survivors include his widow Margaret married in 1921 and two daughters Mrs Homer Christensen Great Falls and Mrs William McInerney Fairfield. Pallbearers were Earl Smith Tilson Farrell John Ammondson Clifford Kipf Ole Vervick and Gene Converse. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery Banks Funeral Home in charge.

Choteau Drive Fund Drive Nears Finish
The Teton Memorial Hospital Association reports 75 percent of its Choteau drive complete with $1,500 collected through Tuesday. Lee Zwerneman, chairman, thanks contributors and staff as the Choteau segment should wrap next week. Funds support hospital maintenance and new equipment through public subscriptions. The final goal is $4,000.

Funeral services for Carl-Ernest Carlson in Choteau
Funeral services were held in Banks Chapel Choteau for Carl-Ernest Carlson 74 retired farmer and Great Northern Railway employee. He died Monday at Alhambra Nursing Home in Helena after years of poor health. Carlson born in Sweden August 1890 came to the U.S. in 1910. He worked for the Great Northern 1910 1915 then farmed near Choteau, rejoined the railroad in 1934, retired 1962 and entered the nursing home. He served in World War I and was survived by his brother and sister. Pallbearers listed. burial in Choteau Cemetery veterans plot.

Born Marian Evelyn Corbett May 17 1921 in Bancroft Idaho, she lived in Vaughn Choteau and Great Falls before settling in Fairfield Beach. Survivors include husband Gordon McOmber two sons Dennis of Bozeman and Gene in Germany, daughter Sandra, parents Mr and Mrs Bryan Corbett of Choteau, three brothers Don and Lee of Choteau and Ottis of Spokane, four sisters Mrs Lyle Martin Mrs Lee Stott of Choteau Mrs Joline Hollar of Texas and Mrs Lorna Olander of Washington. A public health session will explain a 16 hour medical self help course in the Chateau courthouse courtroom at 8 p m Tuesday May 4. Larson Wins Teen Roadeo at Choteau in June State bid
Jerry Larson of Choteau won first place in the Choteau Roadeo with a $25 savings bond as four county youths competed in a written exam and driving skill test at local sites. Ritch Ostberg of Fairfield took second and Margaret Larson was top girl. Ellen and Wedums certifications were given, Donna Harris presented awards, and the event was chaired by Elmer White with Don Nelson assisting. Larson advances to the Bozeman state contest in June with the national finals in Washington, D C.
