W D Helm spoke on Sun Worship The Religion of the Indians at the Methodist church arguing for understanding of Native traditions and critiquing shifting government policy He described sun lodge medicine dreams and the sacred four in Indian religion noting creation myths and loss of hell concepts.
Eighth grade graduation exercises and class day program set for this week at the high school and grade school buildings. 31 students listed for honors and diplomas to be presented by Principal Miss Ruby Miller with music, speeches, and benediction.
About 65 attendees gathered Saturday at the Masonic hall for a joint Odd Fellows and Rebekahs party honoring the 114th anniversary of Odd Fellowship in America. The program featured talks, solos, readings, harmonica and guitar, followed by dancing and refreshments.
Marilyn Ledgerwood and Alice Ledgerwood, daughters of Mrs Alta Ledgerwood of Longview Washington, arrived Monday to spend vacation with their grandmother Mrs Cora Cohoe. They stopped in Conrad to visit grandfather Dan Ledgerwood while en route to Chateau. Howard Hornbacker of Adams Oil Co Essex entered Chateau hospital Tuesday for a cut leg.
Legionnaires and Auxiliary members from Choteau and Great Falls met Monday night at the Choteau hotel Grill room. Speakers included Mrs. O L Lundin of Great Falls, Randall Carpenter, and Mrs. J L McLaughlin, with notices of national defense conferences and district meetings in June and May. Visiting members from Great Falls attended, and refreshments followed talks.
The Choteau Country Club awards the 1933 golf season with a two ball mixed foursome tournament on May 7. Dues are $7.50 with payment urged before May 1 to qualify. Art Ramsey chairs the event and players must coordinate foursomes and report times by May 3. A list of mixed pairs and matchups is provided. Miss Catharine MacDonald named chair of the women’s program committee to organize future women’s tournaments.
William Swedancky a long time Choteau business man died at 9 15 Tuesday evening at Maynard hospital after a paralytic stroke that struck him Saturday night April 15 Born in Eastman Wisconsin on September 24 1883 he lived in Eastman Manley Iowa Bozeman Montana and finally Choteau where he ran the Cash Meat Market with Nick Vlinker later the Choteau Meat Co He is survived by three sisters and one brother and was a Catholic and Woodcraft member Servic es were held at Roberta funeral home and his body sent to Eastman Wisconsin for burial in the family plot beside his parents
The grade school operetta The Magic Beanstalk presented Friday night under Mrs E K Lawson drew loud applause. Praise for Miss Ruby Miller the principal for a painted forest lake and mountains backdrop. Noted for strong casting, good voices, costume and lighting. highlights included Billy Wallace Captain Kidd and Gipsy Ann Florence St Germain Foolemesi Rexell Peterson and Norman Rosengren. Intermission numbers by the Rythm Rustlers impressed, with Audrey Lawson directing.
Miss Eleanor Crossen returned Friday from Lost Angeles after winter study at the University of California and Long Beach Junior College. She was in Long Beach during the quake and notes 211 debris cleared and progress toward ward reconstruction. the house she lived in was not badly damaged.
Dutton, Power and Teton high schools will contest for track and field honors at a Saturday meet. Power’s Hoffmann leads last year’s points standouts and trains for the 440. Dutton’s Cates mentors the squad with two promising hurdlers. Teton’s Yeager and Gitchel headline sprint and distance events. Invitiational meets are May 6 against eight schools, with May 20 at Simms.
Final rehearsals for the senior play promise a entertaining comedy in an ancient Greek setting. Principal Guthrie says attendance is free with a 15 cent reserved seating option at Rexall drug store. four front rows and parents' seats are reserved, others may enter without charge.
Local Lions from this area attended a Helena meeting to assist with forming a new Lions club. The Great Falls club led the event at the placer hotel with District Governor George Hoyt of Shelby present. A. J. Hannan noted Wolf Creek canyon road work improves travel. the route now follows the railroad more closely.
Messrs George Benedett and H Beaupre of the Beaupre hotel and cafe receive beer retailer licenses from the state board of equalization. A wholesale license is awarded jointly to L E Taylor and R E Nelson.
Teton county high school sent several students to Bozeman for High School Week at Montana State College. Contests run April 27 28 29 with entries in scholarship geometry algebra chemistry and several Smith Hughes events including stock and grain judging shop contests and public speaking. Billy Jones and Kenneth Harmon are State Farmer candidates. previous trips to the Pacific International Livestock Show were earned by local Smith Hughes entrants.
Ernest A. Savory of Dupuyer visited Tuesday. A longtime resident, he previously served as county commissioner and assessor before Teton county was divided and has long worked in the livestock business.
Rev. Edw. Dover praises the midyear Epworth League Institute held Friday to Sunday in Augusta. The event featured three classes led by Rev. Turner Rev. Morrison and Dover with a Priest's Butte service at 6:30 a.m. Sunday. A Saturday picnic at J. B. Elliott ranch accompanied class credts for 26 attendees and a bonfire breakfast.
The Home Demonstration club council of Teton County will meet here next Tuesday. The council includes presidents and secretaries of county clubs with Miss Blanche Lee of Bozeman as president.
