Word reached Chateau this morning that Jimmy Peebles son of County Commissioner James Peebles and his wife was among the war prisoners freed in recent days from Nazi prison camps.
Cpl Horace P Wilkerson of Cho teau Montana and a comrade dive into foxholes as artillery shells fall near their positions on the Fifth Army front in Northern Italy. Both packs are torn apart by a blast. Wilkerson serves with a mounted unit of the 10th Mountain division.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ada May Morris wife of Roy Morris will be at 2 p m Friday at the Methodist church in Pendroy with Rev. Bert A Powell and G L Banks directing She died Monday at her ranch eight miles east of Pendroy Her maiden name was Ada May Leeper born January 8 1888 at David City Nebraska She lived in Teton county since 1923 and with her husband resided near Claude Survivors include daughter Mrs J L Gleason Chateau son Sgt C G Jacobs at Camp Maxie Texas and brother Dave Leeper of David City Nebraska Pallbearers named O G Meadows Bob Miller Horace Baskett C Looney Ralph Lear Clyde Kristensen of Conrad She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and other groups and leaves many friends mourning her passing.
Spring clinics for crippled children will be held statewide with 10 centers. Great Falls hosts the May 4 and 5 session serving Cascade, Teton, Glacier, Chouteau, Pondera and Toole counties. Parents should contact Miss Alice Woodgerd at the Teton county courthouse.
After their return Col Chorpening heads to a California base with plans for the Pacific theatre. Mrs Chorpening will depart next Tuesday for Washington stopping in New York and other Eastern cities on the way.
County and city officials warn that public response to the Seventh War Loan is lagging with only about 51,000 of the 371,000 county quota raised. The Seventh drive demands a heavy push as Montana must raise 25 million dollars from individuals and 10 million from corporations. An Odd Fellows and Rebekah anniversary social is set for April 28 with dinner at 7 pm and prizes, while organizers stress the need to boost war bond subscriptions amid a low momentum period.
Last Saturday night the local Moose Lodge installed officers for the coming year with delegation from the Great Falls Moose lodge. Ray Lipton William McIntyre and Art Brundtrack attended. Oscar Rich em was named governor with Henry Arensmeyer junior governor Reinhardt Arensmeyer prelate Tom Hammond secretary Cornelius Van Wichem treasurer Ray Davidson sergeant at arms William Jacobs inner guard John Rich em outer guard and Geo Tuel trustee. Alfred Shelmerdine is immediate past governor and Wayne Hart retires as secretary after nine years in office.
In Great Falls at the Episcopal church on April 12 Miss Merle Fearon daughter of Mr and Mrs E W Fearon wed Lt William Maloit of the U S Marines. The Rev W Friend Day officiated with bridesmaids Jean Richards and Louise Repledge. A reception followed at the Hotel Rainbow and they planned a trip to Choteau Missoula and Seattle.
United National Clothing drive progresses nationwide in April and shows strong local support in Chateau. Local chairman Mrs. Vincent Ward reports generous contributions and outlines drop-off at the former Corner Store now J C Penney central depot open Mon Fri Sat 2 to 5 pm. The drive aims for five pounds per person and ends April 30 with needs for warm clean clothing and boxes and twine for packing.
Mrs. Donald Bethune and daughter Patricia Smith, noted local music teachers, were out of town guests at the mother-daughter banquet held Thursday night at the Methodist church. Mort O Neill, once of Fort Shaw, visited Judge R A Clearman last Monday. now working as a road contractor in Oregon.
The county spring music festival will be held in the county high school auditorium in Choteau at 8 15 p m Friday Apr 27. Miss Esther Groger music supervisor of the Choteau public school will direct with Mrs Arnold Hanusa as accompanist. Upper four grades from six schools expected to join a mass chorus of over 200. The program splits into a miscellaneous section and a patriotic section with Ruth Simkens reading continuity. Free admission. public invited.
The junior class presents The Bashful Bachelor a Samuel French comedy on Wednesday May 2 at Teton High. Bob Scott stars as the bashful author turned lecturer in a girls college with Mae Gronberg Louise Falardeau and a large cast. Reserved seats are on sale at the gas office.
Miss Norma Rogers became the bride of Set Charles B. Daniels of Victor Idaho in a quiet Saturday ceremony at a home. Rev. Bert A. Powell officiated. The couple plans a wedding trip then return. Daniels serves with the army signal corps on the South Pacific front.
The Friendly Neighbors H D club held their April meeting at Mrs. Pearl Haynes home with a bread and rolls demonstration by Miss Frieda Schroder. The Mountain View club joined for the day and served refreshments as the Mt View club shared new ideas and praise.
