Wheat Farmers Warned on Soil Bank Acreage Rules in Montana

In Teton county farmers were reminded they cannot cancel wheat acreage reserve agreements to join the durum wheat program. Chairman K E Sturgis explained the rule that only a portion of an allotment may be allocated as permitted for harvest, with specific reductions to other wheat and penalties for violations.

Zion Brothers Win Great Falls School Addition Bid

Zion Construction Co of Great Falls and Choteau won the low bid for Our Lady of Lourdes School expansion in Great Falls. The bid totaled 144,777 for general contract to add six classrooms an administration area and a gymnasium auditorium. The firm also bid low on alternates including 641 for gym backboards and 5,573 to renovate the existing building.

Former Fairfield Resident Named Malta High Assistant Coach

Robert McLeod, former Teton County resident and Fairfield high school graduate, is named assistant coach at Malta High School. James Fitzpatrick of Hot Springs will join as assistant coach. both recent WMCOE graduates in Dillon.

State Funds Distributed to Sc hool Districts

State funds totaling 12787.14 are allocated as transportation costs for Teton county schools. Muriel S. Reiquam announces the split by district, listing elementary and high school shares for Chateau No.1 Fairfield No.21 Dutton No.28 Power No.30 and others with precise amounts for each district.

Anderson Addresses Democratic Meeting In Conrad Tuesday

Congressman Leroy Anderson of Conrad spoke at a Jefferson Jackson Day dinner at the Conrad Hotel Tuesday evening. Afterward Gordon Mathison introduced guests and Leo Graybill introduced the speaker who urged democratic reform and discussed current congressional measures affecting farmers and small business.

Rites for Teton Pioneer Held At Fairfield

Last rites were held Tuesday April 15 at the Congregational church Fairfield for W Wheeler Cole 79 pioneer Teton county stockgrower who died April 12 Rev Charles Pobanz officiated Fairfield Lodge 127 AF and AM conducted graveside rites and burial was in Sunset Hills Cemetery Cole was born December 12 1877 in Forest Ohio and came to Chateau in 1900 from Arkansas He taught school at Burton Beach attended the University of Michigan and read law but never practiced He homesteaded Freezeout lake area with brothers in 1902 and spent his life ranching mainly in sheep farming

Geng Strikes Again Local Businessman Recovers Missing Car

A male member of a car theft ring was arrested when the Highway Patrol recovered Cedric Schroeder’s 1953 Ford in Chateau’s warehouse district. Schroeder had parked near Wedum’s store and reported the theft, leading to a mistaken tap into Bill Breen’s vehicle. Breen was later implicated after leaving a Lions Club meeting, revealing the ring’s pattern with past thefts dating to March 1948 involving Marie Coffey and mentions of Teton Tom Hammond.

IFYE Exchange Delegates Speak to Thousands in Montana

Bozeman Montana hosts two 1956 IFYE exchange delegates Juanita Noel of Carbon County and William Lassey of Richland County who addressed 446 groups totaling about 43 500 people after returning last fall Lassey spoke in towns including Dutton Farmington Chateau Power Fairfield and in a VFW hall in the week of March 24 26 They also wrote 126 stories gave 29 radio talks and interviews and appeared on six TV programs The visits aimed to foster understanding between nations through personal exchanges with Montana 4 H clubs schools civic and farm groups.

Mitchell Highlights National Guard Training Benefits

Gen. Mitchell urges youths 17 to 26 to join an 11 week active duty program before Oct 1 1957 to complete ready reserve service. New rules from April 1 1957 require 11 weeks for 17 to 18 year olds and six months for those 18 to 26 with no prior service, with administrative delays possible for satisfactory Guard service. Cascade Badgers win eight team invitational in Choteau

Cascade Badgers dominate the Choteau Acantha invitational track meet scoring 50.5 points to top seven rivals including Simms, Fairfield, Conrad, Valier, and Choteau. Rex Rieke led with multiple wins and high marks across sprint events and relays, while other placers included G Collins of Valier and J Vukasin of Central.

Sunrise Easter Service at Priest Butte Draws 140

An estimated 140 people attended the Sunrise Service atop Priest Butte last Sunday at 6 a.m. David Jones led the service with Dr. Gordon Haiberg singing. Charles Perkins and Marvin Larson provided music. Joyce Rossmiller read the Easter Gospel, Pete Howard offered the prayer, and Rev. A B Gravial spoke on the Resurrection. Afterward, Easter breakfast was served at the Methodist and Trinity Lutheran parlor.

Banks Donate Ambulance Gear To Hospital Board

Milton McNea of the Chateau Drug Co will maintain ambulance service for up to six months or until other arrangements exist. L Banks donated ambulance equipment worth over 500 dollars to the Teton Memorial Hospital Association to aid emergency service. An ambulance committee meets April 30 at 8 pm in the hospital board room to discuss permanent solutions.

Board Named To Promote Fair Buildings

A temporary board of directors from area groups was named to promote and finance a show barn and sales building at the Chateau rodeo grounds. Members include Clarence Carlson Milton McNea James Henderson Lawrence Trebesch John Nauck Ray Kelly Bryan Corbett Maurice Smith Lyle Otness Del Carter. The group plans raffles auctions and sponsored roping to raise funds and will sell advertising space on the barn walls at 25 per 3 by 4 feet.
