Grizzly Bear Meeting Slated April 27 at Choteau Library
A public meeting at 8 p.m. on April 27 at the Choteau library will cover grizzly bear research and management issues along the Rocky Mountain East front. Dr. Charles Jonkel will present slides on grizzly biology with input from BLM Forest Service GNP Fish and Wildlife Service and Fish and Game Department staff. The event aims to inform residents about habitat changes since the 1975 listing as threatened and to gather local views on balancing bears with oil gas development subdivisions and ranching.

Five Choteau High School FFA members attended the 47th Montana State FFA Leadership Conference at Montana State University. Jim Campbell earned the State Farmer Degree and led judging teams placing in the silver division. Ryan Rauscher won a bronze for farm mechanics. other delegates aided Montana FFA business. Jim and Dave Stephens of Dutton told the Chateau Lions Club about a October trip to Europe and Russia. They showed slides from Poland, Russia, the Netherlands and Germany, describing government ownership, limited private property, socialist farming, and no welfare. Daylight Saving Time starts at 2 a.m. on the last Sunday in April which falls on the 24th this year. Remember to set clocks ahead one hour Saturday evening so you aren’t late for church on Sunday and are adjusted to the new time by Monday. The time change lasts until the last Sunday in October.
Attorney General Rules On Hospital Proposal
Teton County Commissioners learned State Attorney General Mike Greely ruled a public hospital district cannot transfer title of its new hospital to the county. The AG explained dissolution under a 1947 law is required for such a transfer, noting the 1953 district formation law grants no implied power to override statutes. The district can dissolve only after five years and full debts are settled.

Greg Whipple, a U S Border Patrolman from Laredo Texas, was injured last Wednesday when his light plane crashed during a pursuit of aliens at very low altitude. He suffered two broken ankles a broken jaw and multiple cuts and bruises and is expected to recover about four months.
