CHS recognized both boys basketball and track squads along with cheerleaders at a sports banquet held last Wednesday in the city pavilion. The event highlighted team members and honored seniors for their contributions.
The Forest Service will replant shrubs and trees on 900 acres of flood damaged National Forest lands in Montana's Gallatin Helens and Lewis and Clark districts. Work near Bozeman includes Chateau Augusta Big Blackfoot Shields River and Squaw Creek with native species like willow and cottonwood. Project cost about 140000 dollars with hand planting by Forest Service crews this spring.
The American Lutheran Church women present a May 4 program at Trinity Lutheran Church titled Reach Out and Remember a Mother's Day Tribute Honoring Senior Citizens. Chateau area residents are invited for an evening of nostalgia with brief reminders for daughters to bring their mothers and for mothers to bring their daughters.
Interested residents are invited to a grizzly bear research and management meeting this Wednesday April 27 at 6 p.m. in the Chateau Library meeting room. Specialists will discuss the issue with locals and answer questions.
The Acastha raises subscriptions to six dollars per year effective immediately due to rising newsprint and postage costs. The paper costs over a penny per copy to print and mail, making six dollars per year roughly eleven cents per week, less than the cost of a candy bar.
The annual All-Star Bowl-off between Chateau and Fairfield is scheduled for Thursday May 5 with a 6 30 p m start at A E Lanes for a three game series before moving to the Aragon Bowl in Fairfield for another three games. One women s team and men s A and B teams are chosen by bowlers averages. Last year Fairfield men won while Chateau women took the title. The women s squad includes Virginia Nordhagen Kay Sunder Rose Truchot June Hamilton Anita Dellno with alternates Jeanine Cole Rene Simkins Ruth Hoyt. The men s A team lists Arvid Sander Don Hofeldt Howard Truchot Greg Newell Roger Toren, and the B team includes Duane Harper Jerry Herman Dick Nordhagen Floyd Rada Dick Page, with alternates Grant Curtis Al Tesch Tom McCartney.
A preparedness fair will be held Thursday May 5 in the Choteau LDS Church cultural hall from 6 to 9 p.m. sponsored by the Choteau and Fairfield LDS churches. The public is invited to learn storage of foods and fuel and to sample foods from storage items. A style show of recycled clothing and a Grandmother's Attic display will show storing clothing for future use. Preparedness literature will be available with no admission charge.
The Teton County Advisory Committee on Alcoholism sponsors Alcohol Awareness Week from May 1 to May 7 with the theme Use or Misuse Alcohol. Churches will distribute literature, libraries in Dutton Fairfield and Chateau will display material, and coffee hours in Choteau on Monday May 2 from 9 to (time incomplete) offer residents a chance to meet counselors.
Teton County deputies and a highway patrolman pursued two sailors reported missing from the Navy after a vehicle was found submerged in Gibson Lake last Wednesday. The search led officers west of Augusta where both men were eventually captured.
An United Methodist Women event on Monday May 2 at 8 p.m. at the United Methodist Church features a program on the Bishop's Green Belt Consultation by Mrs. Ed Schilling, plus reports on the Lewistown WIFE meeting and devotions led by Mrs. Bernice Van Setten. Refreshments will follow.
Babe Ruth baseball practice begins Monday May 2 at 6 30 p m. Boys aged 13 to 15 who want to play this summer should report to the Babe Ruth diamond on the initial day.
A pair of crashes north of Choteau left one man with back injuries and two cars damaged. On Wednesday April 20 at 1:30 a.m. a 1971 Chevrolet driven by David Hebeldt of Choteau went off the road near Bynum, Hofeldt and passenger Orrie Scott escaped injury. On Sunday evening a 1974 pickup driven by Patrick Duffey of Conrad ran off Secondary 220 eight miles north of Chateau, Duffey was hospitalized with back injuries.
The Treasure Statesmen Chorus of Great Falls will host a Night of Harmony at Chateau High School Auditorium this Saturday at 8:03 p.m. Featuring the 40 voice chorus directed by Pete Briant, the show includes three regional quartets and the Treasure Tones Sweet Adeline quartet from Missoula. Tickets cost $2.50 for adults and $1.50 for students, available at Coast to Coast Store, Isakson's, and Choteau High School music students.
The Chateau Jaycees announce their second annual March of Dimes Walk a Thon on Saturday May 14. Walkers seek sponsors pledging per mile with proceeds to the March of Dimes fund drive. Free lunch and drinks await along the Choteau to Augusta route or the 10 mile Rattlesnake Butte loop.
