Labor Shortage Hits Teton County Farmers in Coming Season
County Agent Maurice Zimmerman reports a severe labor shortage for Teton County this year. Three local contact offices will coordinate workers from four sources including local youth, Mexican nationals, prisoners of war, and traveling labor. Mexican workers totaling 28 will arrive for spring beet and livestock work, with more for general farming after June 1. Prisoners of war will operate from Vaughn for sugar beet tasks. Transients from Great Falls and local hiring efforts will supplement, with possible Oklahoma imports if harvesting justifies. Producers must place orders by July 1.
