The Easter program spans Cha teau Pendrey and Bynum churches with a sunrise service at 7:00 a m on Priest Butte and indoors if weather fails. A Youth Fellowship breakfast follows, then 9:45 Sunday school, 11:00 Easter worship with choir music a solo by G Emerson Miller and a sermon on Gods Glory in the Morning. Evening rites at 7:00 p m and 8:00 p m. Pendrey opens at 8:00 a m with Easter program and worship. Bynum holds 3:00 p m service preceded by instrumental numbers by Mrs Donald Bethune and Patricia Smith.
Farmers and stockmen can buy CCC owned wheat at the Portland price minus freight through Production Credit associations or the Emergency Crop and Feed Loan office. Minimum 50,000 pound carloads. smaller orders considered. Loans may cover up to $400 in a calendar year. Wheat can substitute for corn in livestock feed, aiding war effort.
The Lutheran Bible School choir of Fergus Falls Minnesota will give concerts at Trinity Lutheran church here Easter Sunday afternoon April 5 at 3 30 p m and at Dutton Lutheran church Saturday April 4 at 8 p m The 82 voice mixed choir drawn from the Seminary Bible Institute and high school units is directed by Prof C F Erickson a St Olaf graduate and student of Prof Dr F Melius Christianson Eight Montana voices are included Rev E Strem school president will give a short meditation A free will offering will be taken and the public is invited
Regulations issued by county rationing chairman H M Daley set registration for sugar. Stores and wholesalers will register at the local high school on April 28 and 29. Individual consumers register at elementary schools on May 4, 5, 6 and 7 with instructions given in advance.
The Senior Class of Teton High selects Mollie O Shaughnessey a western drama for their annual Senior Week play directed by Miss Cleo Buck. Leading roles go to Mildred Depner and Weldon Swanson with a large cast and many named supporting characters. A full cast staff and specialties will follow.
Mrs. Hartwig Nelson of Chateau is named enlistment officer for the cancer control drive through this month. She urges cash or check contributions to support the Women’s Field Army of the American Society for the Control of Cancer. Nelson notes cancer as a major ongoing health issue and cites early signs and diagnosis as key to saving lives.
The range meeting originally set for April 11 has been moved to Saturday April 4 at 1 30 P M. The notice updates the community about the new date and time for the event.
About 400 people from across the county attended the Fun Feed last Thursday evening. Attendants called it the best ever with a fine baked ham dinner from the high school home economics department and a shorter program allowing dancing to begin at 9 30. Bill Haney of the Great Falls Tribune performed sleight of hand tricks and read Casey at the Baseball Bat.
The Three Rivers district of the American Legion Montana meets April 11 at Chateau. The executive committee convenes at 2 PM, district convention and officer elections at 3 PM, turkey banquet at 7 PM with the Great Falls Drum and Bugle Corps, then a pavilion dance. Legion Auxiliary also meets at 2 PM at M E church with registration and officer elections.
All members and prospective members are urged to attend a meeting at city hall this Thursday at 8 o clock. Plans for upcoming year activities will be discussed and officers will be elected.
A local game warden, Walt Everin, reports a successful one man effort to reduce magpie numbers by placing poisoned ham burgers in high concentration areas. He monitors the sites and cleans up remaining bait to protect livestock pets and other wildlife.
The Chamber of Commerce sponsors the third annual Easter egg hunt in Chateau this Saturday afternoon with an age limit of 8 years. Eggs from each business will be hidden by Boy Scouts in the city park and courthouse lawn, with two age groups and no limit on eggs per child. Some eggs are marked by donors and earns up to 1.00 for the finder returning them to the donor firms.
The sacred oratorio The Crucifixion will be performed at the Methodist church on Good Friday at 8:00 PM. G Emerson Miller directs the choir with Mrs Arnold Hanusa on piano, featuring a full ensemble of sopranos altos tenors and basses and nine soloists listed in order of appearance.
Wm. Gaffney, head of the local forest service for two years, is transferred to the Ant Flats district on the Kootenai National Forest at Fortune Ment. He will leave this week. John B. Thompson of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, will replace him and arrive April 16 with his family.
Miller proprietor of the Teton Dairy announced that starting yesterday, April 1, he will make three deliveries weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The change reflects tire rationing and wartime factors, and he asks public cooperation during the emergency.
Montanans Inc plans its annual meeting at the Placer Hotel in Helena on Friday and Saturday April 10 and 11. Director R E Nelson of Chateau is expected to attend. The annual dinner will be held on.
