Chicago March 17 vegetable prices remained mostly steady with strong demand for peppers and light supplies. Florida crates and Louisiana stock showed firm values. California iceberg and other greens held steady. Utah horticulture talks urged higher production and broader markets to aid reconstruction.
Grand Rapids March 7 potato shipments are light while growers move bulk round whites to warehouses at 1.10 per cwt. Carrot prices rise with moderate sales of No 1 round whites at 1.45 to 1.50 f. o. b. terms.
Purdy Missouri March 7. The new Independent Fruit Exchange held a large meeting with strong interest. Notable talks by A M Gurley president First National Bank on Community Clubs and W E Hawkins on rural schools drew praise. J H Fosters reminiscences of strawberry growing and W Ed Roark on Independent Marketing engaged attendees. Col A H Stevens shared stories, and Wilson Russell explained buyers side of the deal to good effect. Overall turnout was strong though some wished the value of such meetings reached more local associations.
Potato holdings at Fremont Michigan total about the same as last year with roughly 10 000 bushels remaining unsold and fourteen cars currently held. Four per cent of the crop remains in farmers hands with slow selling at one dollar per cwt while potato quality is generally good and no feed stock is held. Mansfield South Dakota reports similar totals with the Early Ohio seed potatoes in normal supply and farmers paid one dollar per cwt.

Idaho Falls March 7 reports snow and rain hampering potato hauls and road movement. Despite limited transport, demand pushes prices higher with No 1 Russets at 1.10 per cwt trackside and No 1 rurals at 0.80 per cwt trackside.
A United States court suit will be heard next Wednesday over the seizure of about 910 boxes of oranges alleged by the government to have been frozen. The fruit in question came from Riverside.
