Reed & Son Win Arbitration Over 1917 Egg Shipment
Reed & Son of Bolivar Missouri were awarded 887.16 by an arbitration board against W O Saxton Co and Samuel E Murray of New York over a September 1917 car of eggs deemed inferior. Jelke and Lowry Sentences Commuted by President Wilson
Chicago March 7. President Wilson commuted John F Jelke’s two year sentence and $10 000 fine to four days imprisonment and $10 000 fine. Francis M Lowry’s one year and day sentence was cut to 30 days. The Jelke case against the Jelke Company in 1914 involved conspiring to evade taxes on artificial colored margarine. Neither man has begun serving the reduced terms.
