Sees Need for Legislation to Define Certified Seed
Bellaire Michigan June 4 State and federal legislation is needed to clearly define the meaning of the word certified when used in connection with farm seeds. Harry Reilly a local potato grower and secretary of two seed associations charges unscrupulous sellers pass off common stock potatoes as certified seed harming buyer confidence. He cites complaints from farmers who bought so called certified seed and found diseased tubers. Reilly says the law should require certain cultural practices including disease control spraying hill selection to improve purity and productivity.
