Tax changes tie grape wine tax to Michigan grape tons
In 1938 the tax on grape wine is based on tons of Michigan grapes purchased, with a ton yielding about 230 gallons of wine. A rebate of 46 cents per gallon applies to wines made from Michigan grapes under the new liquor tax law. Forecasts point to larger peach crops as new plantings come into bearing. 1937 Michigan peach crop was about 2.6 million bushels.
