Brawley Calif Dec 31 After a two day shutdown over Christmas the Imperial valley is starting its winter lettuce deal this week with the season well under way in the first week of the new year. Shipments are rising from 60 cars daily to 80 cars with forecasts to reach 100 cars soon after January 3. Through Monday the seasonal total was 522 compared with 288 last year 232 in 1936 and 50 in 1935. Shippers opened sheds at El Centro Holtville Heber and Calexico with loading expanding to these areas by next week.
