Brief Opposes Freight Rate Hikes On Potatoes And Dairy
Grand Forks North Dakota February 11 reports detail the brief to the Interstate Commerce Commission opposing increases in potato and dairy rates. North Dakota Potato Growers and Shippers Association led by T A Durrant argued current rates are 44 percent higher than three seasons and higher rates would restrict markets and production in the Red River valley. The brief also argues dairy rates cannot exceed 60 percent of the first class rate due to truck competition and would reduce tonnage and revenue. Durrant will testify February 16 in Washington against rate spreads on eastern traffic and a proposed reduction for Cambridge Princeton district potatoes without ND cuts.
