Rochester N Y Feb 4 The 1988 convention of the International Apple Association will be held in St Louis Mo Aug 9 to 12, announced by R G Phillips secretary. St Louis was the unanimous choice after invitations from Milwaukee Seattle Baltimore and Pittsburgh. The St Louis members and trade back the convention with hospitality and experience. Plans include air conditioned rooms and entertainment. headquarters not yet chosen.

In Harlingen Texas grapefruit shippers test volume prorations for the first time ending February six with a fixed 450 cars for interstate shipments. Many growers and shippers are for and against the plan and a prominent operator received only five cars for the week leaving his Plant idle for most of the period. Strike Trouble Delays Porto Rican Shipments
New York February 4 William Blanton manager of the Porto Rico Fruit Exchange reports that unsolved longshoremen strikes delay shipments of 7000 to 8000 crates of pineapples and 10000 to 12000 packages of vegetables in Porto Rico. Pineapple crop expected at about 660000 crates, 100000 more than last year, with unusually good quality. Canneries on the island also lack supplies from the United States, threatening further losses if the strike remains unresolved.

Potatoes Stock on January First Drops in 1938 Report
Government crop reports show merchantable potatoes on hand January 1, 1938 totaling 168.936 million bushels, up 26 percent from 1937 but just under the five year average. Surplus late states hold 101.509 million, other states 6.613 million, intermediate states 1.814 million. nationwide yield averaged 123.1 bushels per acre, the best since 1924.

In Minneapolis on February 4, Drs. F. A. Krantz and A. G. Qolaas of the Minnesota Department of Agriculture announced a new potato named Mesaba. A Russet Rural and an Ohio seedling cross, it suits peat soil, has a short thick body and medium thick skin, and is good for baking. Seed will be sent to plots this spring, with regular trade seed not ready until harvest 1938.

Florida Citrus Commission Pushes National Orange Sale Campaign
