Harlingen Texas April 28 The spring tomato deal in the lower Rio Grande valley moves slowly with volume shipments rising after May 5. Truck shipments far exceed rail with 12 cars by truck and two by rail last weekend. USDA forecast 1 330 000 bushels vs 1 264 000 last year, but growers doubt accuracy due to weather damage and larger acreage yet lower total production expected. Rainfall last Friday boosted crops across the district especially in dry land areas.
