Rawlins, March 11 Yee Geow a Chinese man was executed at 12 24 am for the murder of Thomas Holland in Cheyenne last September The drop failed to break his neck causing death by strangulation He renounced Buddhism and was baptized Catholic just before death and expressed regret for the slain men The hanging used the Tom Horn gallows and was conducted with witnesses and a state penitentiary staff present
Wage reduction proposals affecting thousands of workers were announced by western railways headquartered in Chicago. Roads including Santa Fe, Chicago Milwaukee & St Paul, Chicago Great Western, Rock Island & Pacific, and Chicago North Western set meetings with maintainance of way and shop employees to seek lower pay scales. Chicago Northwestern also called a meeting for March 18, with dates for Chicago Great Western to be announced later.
Lenin blamed France for the Kronstadt uprising and predicted it would be crushed within a few days at the opening of the All Russia Bolshevik congress in Moscow. He cited demobilization food and fuel issues as central, and said Soviet Russia faced a difficult international situation. A Moscow cable later said Kronstadt’s battleship Petropavlovsk remained under anti Soviet control but would soon be neutralized, with Trotsky and Tukhachevsky directing operations.
A Union Pacific freight engine crew were overcome by smoke and gas in Hermosa tunnel west of Cheyenne. Fireman Howard Grunden and Engineman Ed Gillman, both of Cheyenne, plus Head Brakeman B. M. Crone were affected as the eastbound freight labored uphill. Grunden revived and shut off steam, Crone was hospitalized but recovered. Gillman was revived in Laramie after being rushed there for aid. Conductor James H. Souttar discovered the unconscious crew and the peril faced.
In Ardmore Oklahoma five hours and fifty minutes of venire screening produced a jury for the murder trial of Clara Smith Hamon charged with killing Jake L. Hamon. Testimony to begin after the jury visits the scene in the hotel room where Hamon was shot. The defense predicts completion by Saturday if sessions continue.
The sophomores won the school interclass final last night, defeating the seniors 19 to 17 to claim the title. Earlier nights saw the seniors beat the sophomores 21 to 18 and the sophomores defeat the juniors 26 to 14, keeping the series tightly contested.
A dispatch reports the wedding of Princess Helene of Greece to Crown Prince Carol of Romania held today in Athens. The Athens cathedral was crowded with relatives cabinet members foreign diplomats and army and navy officers.
A Wyoming forecast indicates likely snow on Friday and Saturday with colder conditions arriving Friday. Residents should prepare for light to moderate snow and plunging temperatures as the system moves through the state.
A referendum strike vote of all packing house employees was authorized at a conference of workers' delegates as President Harding reportedly reviews the matter with federal departments. A message from Frank Morrison indicates the president is considering arbitration and wage hour changes to take effect Monday.
In New Orleans on March 10 civil district court ruled that I. A. Allegeyer, son of a Louisiana cotton man, may file his divorce petition before his wife after a coin flip decided a race for clerk of court. Attorneys on both sides claimed priority as witnesses testified to a dead heat. The judge used a five-cent coin, covered it, and let the lawyers pick heads or tails. The husband’s side won.
The New York Central railroad said on March 10 that starting April 16 it will cut wages for about 43,000 employees. The move is expected to extend to subsidiary lines serving 174,000 workers, roughly one tenth of U S railway staff. The company cited a marked change in conditions to justify the reductions.
Berlin reports the imperial cabinet unanimously endorses Foreign Minister Walter Simons for his handling of talks with the Allies in London. The Prussian cabinet resigns in protest of recent elections while the government remains in place pending a new formation. Allied control measures in the Ruhr prompt martial law in Duisdorf with 5,000 troops and a ban on public assemblies.
Rev. Cornelius Densel former Netherlands Reformed Church pastor in N J will be arraigned on an indictment charging violation of the white slave act before the Newark federal court term. Assistant District Attorney I M Perse said the indictment was returned last week. Densel is free on 5000 bail and charged with taking Tina Hanenberg a choir singer from New Jersey to New York for immoral purposes on November 12. They were away three weeks and he was expelled from the church upon return.
Berlin March 10 The mobilization of eligible voters began in 20 German cities. Special trains carried banners urging Germans to support Upper Silesia. Bands played patriotic music as an estimated 200000 voters prepared to travel to the region, stressing transportation needs.
