At the Illinois county fair a 9 year old jockey, Daisy Parsons, rode with poise to win in 51 seconds and claim a $125 purse plus a vanity case prize. Crowds of 15,000 cheered as she weighed 66 pounds, riding with a horse in pink and earning heartfelt applause for skill and grace.
Hugh Strickland won steer roping in 26 seconds and Ed McCarty wowed spectators with a bridless steer ride. The event featured bull riding, bareback falls, women riders, and a Sioux war dance by Buck Connors. A fight in the grandstand sparked brief chaos before finishing with infantry and cavalry exhibitions.
