Protection of Homesteaders Sought by Bill
Washington July 6. Homesteaders who enlist in the military or naval service would gain full protection of their homestead rights if a measure before a conference committee becomes law. The bill, introduced by Senator Shafroth, would count service for residence and cultivation and allow widows to prove up land if a breadwinner dies. Aimed at bona fide homesteaders, the measure is being considered with efforts to broaden it to women in the Red Cross service.
