In Los Angeles on February 23,18 year old John Han nopheck pleaded guilty to attempting to murder his mother by poisoning her coffee with formaldehyde after she refused to give him money. He faces sentencing Monday.

In Pawhuska Oklahoma on February 29 cattle in Opage County were saved from freezing after a herd helper tapped a natural gas line to relieve a gas leak. The action preserved the animals but caused gas shortages for local residents relying on heating.
Boston reports the National City Bank of Cambridge closed after a $144,000 defalcation. A warrant was issued for George W. Coleman a 27 year old bookkeeper last heard from in Kansas City Missouri. Capital stock and surplus wiped out. depositors are small tradesmen.
New York February 23. Abi, one of seventeen directors of the Consolidated Milk Exchange, was indicted with others for meeting in New York on June 29, 1909 to fix wholesale milk price at 141 a forty quart. Penalty listed as up to one year in prison or a fine up to 5000 dollars, or both for each offense. Nine other directors escaped indictment after grand jury testimony.
Washington February 22 The House passed a uniform bankruptcy bill. The Senate weighed income tax arguments as Beveridge outlined bills on Alaska coal deposits. He predicted the deposits would be needed nationwide and estimated Alaska coal tonnage at fifteen billion.
Washington February 23 Ballinger designated about 64 320 acres in Wyoming as subject to disposition under the enlarged homestead act granting 20 acres to each applicant A total of roughly 18 160 000 acres in Wyoming has been designated under this act
Gen. Toledo announces that Nicaraguan government troops under Generals Rivas and Lara defeated Insurgents led by Benucerro at Tisma after seven hours of intense fighting. Rival reports from Gen. Estrada claim a three day battle with two government generals killed, placing Chamorro near Managua.

Dalai Lama exited toward Darling as Chinese forces move from Szechuen subduing eastern Tibet and levying on the lama’s home. Lord Minto refused intervention citing Chinese administration of the region.
