In Nashville on Aug 19, 47 Tennessee House members signed a pledge to reconsider ratification of suffrage. Speaker Beth Walker urged reversal at a mass meeting. Lincoln August 19 The Secretary of State was notified that the Socialist Party of Nebraska will seek a place on the presidential ballot by petition. The party lost ballot rights last election but previously polled about 10 000 votes. The secretary said he will place the socialist ticket on the ballot when 500 voters petition it.
A woman scanning the ocean with a telescope spotted four boys clinging to the gunwale of an overturned rowboat drifting a mile offshore. The observers rescued all four youths as the boat overturned and weather threatened their safety.
Lower California residents will name their own governor Eduardo Ruiz Mexican consul announced. The territory will hold elections though not a state.
Additional preparations for extending the air mail service west are scheduled to be made Friday when two planes are expected to leave Omaha for Cheyenne. The trip aims to distribute planes along the line between Omaha and the Pacific coast and to acquaint pilots with the route.
Preparations have begun to extend the Union Pacific line 38 miles west of Haig Nebraska into the Goshen Hole district of Wyoming. Engineering camps are being set along the proposed route to serve a predicted rich sugar beet and wheat region.

Vandeto, described as a Wariner of Ponzi Securities Exchange, was arraigned on larceny charges of $600 and held for a September 10 hearing with bonds set at $5,000.
CHICAGO August 19 David Army Thompson sought by police as operator of a clearing house for stolen Liberty bonds and war savings stamps was brought back to Chicago from Zebulon Georgia. Thompson and J M Graham were arrested last year and held with about seventy thousand dollars in Liberty bonds in their possession. Thompson was moved to Hilmore Missouri Carnesville Georgia and Atlanta Georgia where he was discharged. Search continues for Graham and George Harris two alleged safe blowers linked to Thompson in burglaries in Illinois and Georgia.
Thomas B. H. Watson once a presidential candidate and Democratic senatorial hopeful in Georgia, along with traveling companion H. Miller, was released from Gurnett county jail after a hotel disturbance. Watson faced a public indecency charge with bond set at 500 dollars while Miller faced a concealed weapons charge with 1000 dollars.
Six witnesses including five police officers and a strike breaker were examined at the initial session of a special grand jury investigating fatal Tramway strike rioting in Denver. Officials indicated indictments would not be returned for several days.
Louis Eckles, a Chicago murderer under sentence, was shot by a guard at the Tolint Illinois prison after he attacked an officer. Manila reports an island mountain top slid during a recent storm, burying an Igorote village under hundreds of feet of earth. The village lies in the mountain province about 200 miles from Manila. 70 natives are reported dead, with no bodies yet recovered.
