Bear Referendum to Ban Grizzly and Black Bear Hunting in B C
Anthony Marr of the Western Canada Wilderness Committee leads a Bear Referendum push to ban bear hunting in British Columbia. The plan seeks 210,000 signature pledges by voters across 75 ridings within 90 days to trigger a province wide vote, with potential legislative action in 1999 if successful. Marr cites poaching and declining grizzly numbers while allowing subsistence and nuisance animal killings.
