Teachers in School District 59 halted showing videos from local outlets due to copyright rules. A donated set led to notices of infringement, but the district plans to secure public performance rights by mid May. Most school videos and those at the Dawson Creek resource centre already carry rights for classroom use.
Sheila Barnes of the Dawson Creek and District Hospital Foundation credits 12 years of effort and broad Peace region support for securing a CT scanner for Dawson Creek hospital. Citizens from Chetwynd, Hudson's Hope, schools and businesses helped raise a million dollars in just over a year, signaling 100 percent community backing to government.
The Dawson Creek and District Health Care Society secured a donated CT scanner with ongoing annual funding of about $250,000 and $577,000 in hospital renovations. Auxiliary equipment estimated at $200,000 may also be covered. Start of renovations is imminent and the scanner should be operational by year end.
