Roosevelt urged action to free rural electrification program
Chester E. Lake, dismissed executive of the Rural Electrification Administration, warned that he will begin a hunger strike after June 28 if the program remains under Agriculture Department control. He says freeing REA will release it as a true independent agency and criticizes a blacklist that led to his dismissal. Lake, a longtime advocate for farm electrification, claims his removal was politically motivated and tied to plans to form insurance companies from NRECA funds. Virginia Kahle enters hospital accounting institute at McMillan hospital, conference notes.
