Mexican Fiesta Brings Gaiety to Chanute Downtown
The Mexican Fiesta drew about 3000 people to Santa Fe Park with opening events at the park and a bustling Main Street. Merchants dressed in Mexican attire, music filled the air, and crowds queued for auctions and performances by the Nambomaria chi from Patzcuaro. Coronation of Priscilla Gutierrez as fiesta queen and Gloria Hernandez as fiesta princess highlighted the celebrations. A second program with the Contreras family singers and a dance group runs 7:30 tonight at the park.

Harold W. Hays aged 20 died Friday night when the car he rode in overturned after failing to turn on Ray town Road blocked by Southeast Trafficway construction.
