Fatal Junction City crash claims two lives
A two-vehicle collision five miles west of Junction City on Highway K18 killed two people and injured three. One victim was a Fort Collins man identified as Robert Stanley Williams, 44, with another elderly woman dead. A Colorado car carried five occupants. the eastbound truck driver, John Kummer of Chapman Kansas, was en route to take his son to school.

Chanute's downtown business district took on a Halloween mood as over 400 students formed 135 teams to paint windows during the Art Marathon. An ambulance carried William L. Hays 47 of Kansas City to Neosho Memorial Hospital after a 1 a.m. illness at a rental cabin 920 North Santa Fe Chanute. Doctors diagnosed pneumonia with a heart condition. Hays was a traveling tree trimmer who visits Chanute periodically.

John Leroy Injured In Warehouse Accident
John Leroy city employee suffered possible knee cap fractures in a warehouse incident at 119 S. Santa Fe. A 1,500 pound copper wire stack toppled onto him while he worked on a floor valve, pinning him for about ten minutes before coworkers freed him and he was transported to Neosho Memorial Hospital. X-rays were taken with readings incomplete.

Meter Reader Saves Family In Topeka Fire
AP reports meter reader Paul Crago 37 rushed into a Topeka home after flames appeared. He carried two young children to safety and assisted a neighbor in guiding a mother and a third child out. A two year old boy Frank Mendez later suffered mild smoke poisoning. The fire started from a faulty extension cord.
