Boy Rescued After Storm Sewer Drags Him Mile

In Dallas a 12-year-old boy was carried nearly a mile through a storm sewer by swift floodwater after a downpour. Paul Ernest Buckner Jr. said he and a friend played in gutters, lay in the water, and were carried along until he exited at a drainage ditch. He suffered bruised ribs and skinned knees.

Episcopal Church Grants Defense Funds for Five Convicts

The Episcopal Church executive council approved a 5000 grant for the defense of five men convicted in a Wichita robbery case tied to a Kansas City War on Poverty official. Bishop Edward C. Rhea has 56 subscribers in Yates Center and is 13. Awards were presented by Mrs. Richard Markham at Elks Lake with a picnic for about 50 carriers and families.

Crash Kills Two Men West of Town in Rainy Highway Crash

A two life crash occurred five miles west of here on K39 during a heavy rain early Sunday. John Brant 22 and Charles Midcap 23 died. Midcap died later at Neosho Memorial Hospital. Brant’s body found at the scene. Midcap critically injured. Car a 1968 Dodge owned by Midcap. Investigators probing driver identity and exact time. Police report a break in at Olson's Supermarket Saturday night with plate glass shattered in front doors and an opening knocked in the west wall.
