Fall Festival Parade Showcases 16 Bands and 17 Float Entries
Thousands watched the Fall Festival parade capping a three day event. Sub Debs won first for floats with Sub Debs Are in Swing. Senior High Bi-Phy-Chem Club took second. Vilas Vikings 4-H Club third. Troop 6 Boy Scouts fourth. Prizes ranged from 25 to 10 dollars. participation earned $10. Cub Scout Pack 9 won $15 for marching, Pack 1 $10, Brownies $5. Ralph Hibbs of Thayer won $15 for best corn load. Bands and bugle corps were paid $20 to cover expenses. Santa Fe band from Topeka traveled the greatest distance. Schools included Sen ior High, Royster Junior High, Elsmore, St Patrick Parsons, Buffalo, Walnut Consolidated, and more. Parade chairman was Richard L. Ashley. The festival closed with a Masonic Temple dance, hosted by the Junior Chamber of Commerce.

ERIE Charles Haviland Thayer and Henry W Hapner Parsons were found guilty of negligent homicide in a hearing before Justice of Peace Don E Wells. Each man was fined on two counts totaling 110 dollars. The charges stem from a two car collision near Galesburg on Sept 7 that killed Roy Baty and Roy and Frank Johnson.

INDIANAPOLIS The toll road’s first 45 days yielded $445,461 in tolls from 518,304 vehicles, averaging $9,899 daily. Seventeen miles remain closed at the west end. Three Vehicle Mishaps Reported Near Chanute
No injuries from three Sunday night incidents near Chanute. Edward A. Pauli, 71, of 419 N Highland and Kenneth Jones, 15, of 1209 N Washington collided nine miles east of Chanute after Jones car stalled on the highway. Pauli veered to avoid, but collision occurred. Pauli’s front and Jones’ stalled car sustained damage. A second crash at 213 E Main involved Donald Reeves and Orville Chandler with Reeves’ left side damaged. A third collision near 211 W Main damaged John Kienzie’s rear area and Claude Thompson’s left front fender as cars collided in the parking area.
