A Suffolk Superior Court jury found eight men from greater Boston guilty of taking part in the $1,219,000 Brink's robbery the largest cash heist in U.S. history. Thieves broke into Mr. and Mrs. George Corkle home at 905 N Forest Thursday night and stole about $400 worth of women’s clothing and $80 in cash. The couple were at a neighbor’s during the evening. doors were locked and returned home about 10 p.m. to find clothes, an ear ring, and a billfold missing. Six or seven dresses valued at about $50 each, three sweaters and other garments were listed in the report.

Secretary of the Navy Thomas decided to keep Sgt Matthew C McKeon in the Marines as a private after a court martial for negligent homicide and drinking on duty related to the drowning of six recruits at Parris Island. He reduced confinement to three months and set aside a 270 dollar fine restoring rank to private to allow a chance for an honorable career. McKeon, 31, said he would strive to be the best private and his attorney called the sentence just.
