SEDGWICK Kansas AP says Lillian Tear will quit next Tuesday as librarian for the town population 1130. She started in 1924 and served without pay for 17 years saying it was an opportunity to help and she loved every minute of it. She will turn 90 on December 17.
President Johnson proclaims a national day of thanksgiving and prayers for peace. Families nationwide prepare feasts including turkey and regional dishes while parades and college and pro football contests mark the holiday. Major parades and contests in cities from New York to Toronto and Lincoln to Roanoke anchor the celebration.
Santa Claus will visit Chanute Friday from 5 to 8 30 p.m. at Lincoln and Main to turn on lights and open the Christmas shopping period. Police seek a 6% foot python who vanished after Lena Dalon reported leaving the brown and cream snake in a closed bathroom. Detective L C Chatham said the owner told investigators the reptile was in a bathtub before it disappeared.
In Wichita a Safeway robbery on South Seneca ended when Sgt. Karl Triplett rammed the getaway car. Patrolman Gary Caldwell pursued, tackled a suspect, and fired a shot as two others fled. One man, Edward H. Smith, 19, of Arlgyle Tex, was captured. About 450 dollars was taken.

Kansas traffic death log shows 39 fatalities in 1965 through 9 a m Wednesday for November, 573 for the year. The comparable 1964 period had 598 deaths.
A four hour riot at Menard State Prison in Chester Illinois left three guards dead and six injured after convicts used knives from steel bars and a painted thinner bomb. Illinois Public Safety Director Ross Randolph and Warden Max Frye negotiated with four ringleaders who sat hostage guards and surrendered after 300 guards and state troopers surrounded the dining hall. The three fatally stabbed guards were Lt. Lewis M. Paul Arthur L Kisro and George L Wilson.
A general closing will be in effect in Chanute and the area tomorrow for Thanksgiving. The Tribune will not be published and there will be no mail deliveries on city or rural routes. Most stores and offices will resume Friday. The Safari Museum will observe usual hours from 10 a.m. to 5 30 p.m.

Milt Snyder longtime Chanute Chamber of Commerce manager since 1963 resigns effective December 1 to join the Kansas Employment Service at Dodge City as an interviewer. He says his family will stay in Chanute for a time and no replacement is yet named.
New York AP reports Julie Dillard now nine from Santa Rosa California is cited by the American Cancer Society as the 1966 poster girl for the national cancer crusade next April. Julie is the daughter of Mr and Mrs James Dillard.
City work crews start painting parallel parking stalls on Main between Steuben and Central to allow meter installation without car interference. Parking meters will be added with a second crew. two of three new lots near Main open, with meters planned on 1st Street blocks. Revenue funds bond retirement.
