In Hutchinson Kansas a self service laundry attendant 41 year old Betty Shields reported a telephone threat that she would be shot if receipts were not left outside in a money bag. She placed 225 dollars in the bag and left. Police were alerted 20 minutes later after she was frightened by the caller.
Kathy Berger of Bucklin won the 1970 Kansas Wheat Queen title during a joint session closing the Kansas Wheat Commission and Kansas Association of Wheat Growers meetings. Delegates adopted resolutions urging a wheat symbol on license plates and forming a media council to boost agri business image. Kansas will end mobile chest X ray service by June 30 1970 due to declining TB cases and better detection methods.
A six county cooperative law enforcement investigative unit named the capital area major crime squad was formed in Topeka on Wednesday night. Officers from Shawnee Jefferson Wabaunsee Jackson Douglas and Osage counties will comprise the squad.
Dr. George A. Wolf, dean of the University of Kansas Medical Center, proposed expanding the doctor supply in Kansas without a new school. He urged a three year program, larger classes, a Department of Family Practice, in state internships and residencies, and statewide planning of needs. He spoke at the State Budget Division hearing on 1971 budget requests.

Apollo 12 astronauts Richard Gordon and Charles Conrad Jr. rendezvoused with their mother ship Intrepid after a trek across lunar terrain. Gordon filmed the approach as the two craft closed in with the Moon’s cratered surface in the background.
Conrad and Alan L. Bean guided the spacecraft Intrepid to a nose-to-nose rendezvous with Gordon’s Yankee Clipper at 11 58 p m CST after a 32 hour chase around the moon. The crew traded quips as they formed a precise orbital ballet and planned a later crash to deploy a moonquake detector. They had spent hours on a geology trek in the Ocean of Storms collecting samples and parts from a Surveyor craft. The base still issued the countdown as engine bursts vaulted the cabin at 8 26 a m.
Sgt Michael Bernhardt testified he saw Company C 1st Battalion 20th Infantry of the 11th Brigade kill hundreds of South Vietnamese civilians at My Lai in March 1968.
