Jets Collide in Night Training Over Belleville
Two Air Force Sabre Jets collided during a night training flight from Scott AFB at Belleville. Lt. William R. McDaniel of Fort Worth and Lt. James H. Metz of Poplar Bluff parachuted to safety. McDaniel was found injured on a farm porch. Both pilots from the 85th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron survived with minor injuries as wreckage was scattered six miles away.

Fire Fatal to 2 Children in Junction City Trailer
Two young girls Shannon 4 and Virginia Lee 5 died in a trailer fire at a Fort Riley area camp. Their father Specialist 3rd Class Jerry Webster and mother escaped with two other children Mickey 2 and Sherri 6. Sheriff Vance Collins said the blaze started from a heater while the family slept.
