In Buena Vista Colorado two miners died in a sequence of dynamite explosions at the Silver King mine shaft eleven miles west of town. David Richard Spielman 35 of Colorado Springs and Henry E Stout 43 of Riverside Colorado were found buried in rock debris at the shaft bottom while fixing dynamite charges.

Load of GIs Home in Seattle Plane Crash
A chartered four engine DC4 airliner carrying 66 servicemen home from the Far East crashed shortly after takeoff from Boeing Field Seattle. At least 27 people died and 47 survived including the three crew members. The craft struck a hillside in a residential area and burst into flames.
