Miami customs agents seized 890 animals and birds including 50 boa constrictors used to cover 100 pounds of marijuana shipped from Colombia. The haul, packed in linen bags and five crates, was found at Miami International Airport.
An apparent failure in a vacuum holding area of a hydrogen tank on Apollo 12 was discovered during fueling at Cape Kennedy. Officials investigate the extent of the problem and potential impact on the moon mission launch scheduled for Friday.
Actress Gina Lollobrigida announced in Rome she will marry George S. Kaufman a New York real estate man. They fly to New York for the ceremony planned as soon as possible. Lollobrigida 41 Kaufman 40 face church and Italian divorce issues.
Congressmen Larry Winn said he would push to reverse the Defense Department plan to deactivate Olathe Naval Air Station. He told reserve officers he would seek feasibility of closing other sites while preserving Olathe and possible transfer of the Naval Air Reserve unit to a nearby Air Force base as Pentagon plans to deactivate the facility by July 1970.
