President Nixon, in a Thanksgiving Day proclamation, calls the United States a most fortunate people while urging gratitude for past bounty and resilience amid current challenges. He asks Americans to rekindle the spirit of the first settlers and value freedom even when material comforts were scarce.
Lt Gov James DeCoursey a Democrat from Kansas City area says in a WREN interview he is considering running for Congress next year against Republican incumbent Larry Winn. He has not made a final decision and remains a resident of the 3rd District.
The House Government Operations Committee accuses the Army of candor failure and deception over open-air war gas tests. It demands public disclosure of any future tests already restricted by recently enacted law, criticizing secrecy surrounding CBW operations.
The House Appropriations Committee backed the 95.9 million SST program within a 2 billion DOT bill, funding 300 seat SST development and adding 3,800 air traffic controllers, 54 control towers, and enhanced radar and comms nationwide. In Topeka, lawmakers approved driver education mandates to curb traffic deaths as the 1970 legislature nears.
Rep. Bill Fribley of Crestline said he will resign from the Kansas Legislature in a few days after being named special assistant to the federal co chairman of the Ozarks Regional Commission. He attended the Kansas Legislative Council and Finance Council meetings, with plans to finish pending business before stepping down after the council session ends.
A two mile candlelight march from Kansas State Teachers College to Peter Pan Park is set for Friday night as part of Vietnam moratorium activities. Cecil Findley of Wichita State University will speak at the rally in the park. The Emporia Moratorium Committee, including students from the teachers college and College of Emporia, sponsors the event. Veterans groups urge residents to support Nixon by flying the flag and driving with headlights on Saturday.
Dwight Wallingford reports Kansas citrus record due to a lemon tree on P. L. Hardesty’s 160 acre Thayer county farm. Lemons vary from tiny to over two pounds with trees in living room circular planter. Neodesha, Paris Texas and California pollen theory cited as causes.
The area forecast warns of a cold wave with northerly winds 20 to 30 mph. Temperatures fall to 30 to 35 by evening and 20 to 25 by early Friday with a high near 40 Friday and a 20 percent chance of precipitation tonight.

Paris AP report says North Vietnam and the Viet Cong count on growing U S protests to push their terms for ending the war. Ambassador Lodge counters that most Americans back Nixon's peace efforts and denounces Hanoi’s demands for unilateral withdrawal and Saigon overthrow.
Neosho Junior College and Senior High school report no activities scheduled for the second Vietnam War moratorium. Officials say no requests or plans from students. Previously, an assembly at Senior High and a discussion at the juco were held for the October moratorium.
President Nixon told a cheering House of Representatives he believes a just peace will be achieved in Vietnam during a surprise Capitol visit ahead of planned antiwar demonstrations. He thanked lawmakers for their support of his policy.

Across the United States protesters staged antiwar actions. In Missouri a sunrise service drew 26 people at St. Joseph Civic Center, while Brown University students urged workers to oppose the war. Philadelphia, Sacramento, Atlanta, and Boston saw leaflets, vigils, and counteractivities as USA Day at the University of Montevallo was declared.
