Bank Plate Glass Window Breaks After Night Vandalism

A plate glass door at the north entrance of the First National Bank was broken when a beer glass was thrown through it. Police were notified at 7 45 a m by the bank janitor. Earlier patrols found further vandalism at Santa Fe Park including a broken utility room window and red painted lettering on restroom walls.

Police found the front door of the S and S Body Shop at 1419 S. Santa Fe open last night but shop operators said nothing was missing. Officers discovered the break-in during a routine patrol.

Bridge Collapse Damages Cement Truck on K146 West of Walnut

A cement mixer truck from Hy Grade Construction Co. of St. Paul, a 1966 Mack, was damaged when a creek bridge on highway K146 west of Walnut collapsed. The truck carried seven yards of cement mix. Driver Pat Born, 35, of Parsons, was uninjured. The bridge was a total loss and a detour was begun around 9 a.m. yesterday.

Bacon of Neodesha Uninjured in Crash

A Globe-Swift single engine plane piloted by Richard Bacon of Neodesha Kansas made a wheels-up landing in a soft wheat field northeast of Denver after running out of fuel. Neither Bacon nor Richard C. Morton of Wichita were injured. They were en route to Boulder for a Colorado Kansas football game. The aircraft suffered heavy nose and undercarriage damage.
