U S Marines and Army infantrymen battled dug-in North Vietnamese forces five miles apart south of Da Nang in two fierce engagements. In a 26 hour coastal lowland fight near a hamlet in the northern 1st Corps area Marines suffered 4 dead and 64 wounded while the enemy left eight bodies. South of there the 1st Air Cavalry and 4th Infantry backed by armor lost 10 killed and 46 wounded as a heavy NVA assault was repelled after six hours leaving 27 enemy dead. Bridge Collapse Clips Cement Truck On Highway K146
A 100 foot steel and concrete bridge on highway K146 west of here collapsed under a loaded ready mix cement truck around 9 am. The truck owner Hy Grade Construction and Materials Co. no injuries reported. Sheriff George Neely said the bridge pulled loose from both piers and fell into the creek bed. A temporary shoo fly detour will be built across the creek but may flood with rises.

Pilot Jumps Plane Crashes Near Kansas City
Maj Floyd T. Wood says 2nd Lt. Jan Rozendall of Burlington Vermont bailed out shortly before the Vermont Air National Guard jet crashed south of Kansas City. Rozendall, uninjured, was taken for routine checks at Richards Gebaur Base. Eyewitness reports say the plane exploded in the air and no parachute was seen near Belton, Missouri.
