US Navy warships intercepted five Russian vessels outbound from Cuba. Missiles and missile equipment were seen on the decks of at least three ships, with four intercepted this morning and a fifth contacted Thursday.
Reports in the United States indicate thousands of Soviet technicians in Cuba are preparing to leave the island as missiles are returned to Russia under a U.S.-Soviet accord. Officials say signs of withdrawal support Khrushchev’s pledge to remove nuclear missiles from Cuba while noting no clear move to remove IL28 bombers. Additionally a collision near Iola results in the death of Mrs. Ben Foster and injuries to her two children.
Chanute announces a mixed closing for Veterans Day with most offices and many businesses closing or delaying. The American Legion reports 57 firms agreeing to close all day, while city and county offices shut and state offices stay open. post office and library hours vary. city commission shifts to Tuesday. In Kansas City AP dispatch Capt Eddie Rickenbacker urged the United States to invade Cuba at a Dr Guy H Moore dinner. He warned Khrushchev trapped Kennedy and said delay costs lives and allows communism to spread in Central and Latin America. He also advocated withdrawing from the United Nations and breaking ties with the Soviet Union.
A Southern Railway passenger train from Atlanta to New Orleans struck a heavily loaded gasoline truck at a crossing in Estaboga, killing fireman Harold L. Bolden and engineer J. S. McWhorter. The truck driver Roy McCurry survived with injuries. the engine burned as the train traveled nearly a mile.
Fair skies and moderate temperatures spread across Kansas as a brief chilly spell ends. Afternoon highs reach the 50s in eastern Kansas and 60s in western areas with nights in the 30s to 40s. Forecasters expect five days of generally fair weather with minor cool fronts and no significant rain.
The FCC moved unused Kansas channels to support a statewide educational network. Channel 8 shifts Manhattan to Hutchinson while Channel 11 moves Lawrence to Topeka. In downtown Kansas City a man grabbed a tray holding more than 30 rings valued at $30,000 from saleswoman Mrs. A. B. Carrier and fled. Three rings were valued at $5,500 $4,300 and $3,300. Witnesses saw a waiting car speed off with the thief.
A car struck a bridge southeast of Pittsburg on Thursday, killing the driver Robert E. Walker of Baxter Springs Kansas. The crash details were reported by AP.
United Nations report says the Soviet Union resists removing bombers and on site inspection in Cuba and pushes Castro five point demands. Adlai Stevenson says talks with Kuznetsov cover several outstanding issues and Castro's stance on the Guantanamo base and guarantees against invasion.

Dale E. Moses 20 of Erie drove a 1956 Chevrolet off a county road three and a fourth miles southeast of Urbana, the car turning over. Estimated damage was 300 dollars. Moses was not injured and attributed loss of control to loose gravel. Sheriff Jerry Sloan investigated.
