Firefighters were called to 202 S Ruter Stan ley F Allen residence at 10:20 AM after natural gas from a copper tubing stove connection ignited. Assistant chief Charles Ogle said a mop contact with an electric wire likely sparked the blaze, scorching a wall panel and damaging 220 volt insulation.

A rash of highway accidents in Kansas killed three. In Lyndon area, Emmett Denney and Wayne Cole died in a near head on collision on U S 75. Collision with steer damages Bonine car
Thayer report states a 1959 Ram driven by Herman Bonine 50 of Thayer R 2 struck a Black Angus steer on a county road one mile south and a mile east of Thayer last night. The steer weighing about 600 pounds escaped from a drainage ditch and was identified as owned by Leck Gerhart. Bonine wife and daughter Patricia were unharmed. time of the accident was about 8 o'clock. Undersheriff Lester Marts was the investigating officer.

County Road Bid Openings Set for Chanute Area
Erie officials report bid openings for two Chanute area county secondary road projects on December 5.
